At this point itโs impossible to ignore the elephant in the room: tech workers globally are on shaky ground.
From Metaโs announcement that it is to shed another 10,000 staff members as part of its โYear of Efficiencyโ to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the resultant ripple effect being felt by startups and investors, 2023 hasnโt gotten off to the best start.
The silver lining is that the European tech scene is holding steady.
Recent data compiled by Deloitte highlights that the European tech industry has been bolstered thanks to a focus on the field of mechanical engineering, and the green technology powering the automotive industry.
And thanks to funding programmes like The European Investment Bankโs European Tech Champions Initiativeโwhich aims to give โฌ10 billion to scaleups in the high-growth phase to tackle the gap in European scale-up investment compared to the U.S. and ChinaโEuropean startups will be able to access much-needed capital.
That being said, certain sectors are also more robust than others and for tech workers, focussing on certain areas like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and cloud computing solutions can help future-proof your career, and provide great options when it comes to your job search.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning
If the unprecedented success of ChatGPT has taught us anything itโs that thereโs an appetite for easily accessible, generative AI tools. So itโs little wonder that the World Economic Forum has estimated that AI will create another 95 million high-paying jobs by 2025.
As the sector continues to grow, and non-tech industries like insurance, healthcare and even farming are looking to AI and ML to streamline and simplify processes, artificial intelligence will go even more mainstream meaning greater job security for those who work within the field.
Cloud computing and cybersecurity
The cloud is proving to be holding steady as keeping data secure off-site has become a huge priority for organisations. This means software developers are increasingly applying their skills and experience to jobs concerned with creating cloud infrastructuresโGartner predicts that the sector will grow as a result with 95% of new digital workloads deployed on cloud-native platforms by 2025.
In fact, cloud security in Europe is projected to grow by 37.93% by 2027 resulting in a market volume of โฌ1.64 billion by 2027.
