Mention the word ‘blockchain’ and people get excited. It’s the future. It’s going to be an essential part of financial services, facilitating trust and efficiency in banking on an unprecedented scale.

However, for all its promise there are also questions that must be answered before we can really start talking about widespread adoption. In particular, how we are going to scale the technology?

You now have the unique chance to join forces with the brightest minds in the blockchain industry to help overcome this obstacle at the free Master Workshop: Layer I solutions in Amsterdam on November 17th and 18th.

Lose the hype, get real

There’s a great deal of hype surrounding everything related to blockchain. Even though this generates a lot of attention, hype alone will not help the technology to evolve and progress. For that, serious players with serious knowledge are needed – developers, engineers, researchers and people in the industry. This Master Workshop, organised by Binary District and the Research Institute, provides a space where these experts can come together and share ideas around the potential solutions, a place where they can collaborate and create.

Scaling blockchain technology

There are two approaches to scalability in blockchain, those that focus solving the problem on the chain itself and those that rely on off-chain. This workshop will focus primarily on layer I solutions. These refer to increasing the capacity of the blockchain by increasing the size of the blocks. Or more broadly, anything that improves the network’s capacity at the blockchain layer.

The most well-known example of a layer I solution is Ethereum’s effort to implement ‘sharding’: slicing data so it is not necessary to constantly process entire transactions on the blockchain. But is on-chain scaling the right solution, or are these merely temporary band-aids? What are the trade-offs? Are projects on layer II solutions more feasible and better positioned?

Don’t just listen, participate!

The Master Workshop offers a unique opportunity to discuss the answers to these questions with the best in the industry, those leading projects widely acknowledged to be the best hope for blockchain. Speakers include researchers from universities all over the world, as well as experienced thought leaders from the enterprise. You will take a look behind the consistency guarantees of blockchain algorithms, blockchain consensus and sharding.

You will also have unprecedented access to these thought leaders and multiple opportunities to get involved yourself. Both afternoons will include in-depth sessions in small groups, led by the speakers, about the topics discussed. The panel discussion at the end of the Master Workshop will ensure all views, ideas and propositions are heard and thoroughly discussed.

Limited places, register now

Master Workshop: Layer I solutions will be held from 17-18 November in Amsterdam, in the Primalbase office in Van Diemenstraat. It will be the largest meetup of leading experts yet, focusing on solving these vital issues concerning blockchain, and you can be part of it for free. Registration is open now. Space is limited so act fast!
