Deze drie groene energiestartups moet je in de gaten houden

Stroom is eigenlijk net zo saai als de handleiding van een CV-ketel. En je mist het pas als het je het niet meer hebt om je smartphone op te laden. Nederland loopt dan misschien wat achter op het gebied van duurzame energie, toch zijn er tal van interessante energiestartups te vinden die baanbrekend bezig zijn. Uit de losse pols enkele namen die volgens ons het volgen waard zijn en het huidige energielandschap (gaan) opschudden.

1. Vandebron

Voor de oplettende volger hebben ze bij Vandebron al de nodige aandacht gekregen (o.a. Telegraaf, FD, NRC, Sprout en ook Energiebusiness.nl). De lancering in maart dit jaar was aangenaam en goed verzorgd. Veel mensen die actief zijn met duurzame energie (o.a. Green Spread, Zonline) en duurzaam ondernemen (Rockstart, Social Enterprise NL). Leuke dames schonken drankjes opgeleukt met groene rietjes. Op hun voorgevels prijkten ‘Vandebron’.

Groene stroom

Maar genoeg over de schil. De inhoud is ook interessant. Van de Bron biedt enkel groene stroom van Nederlandse bodem. Ze sluiten deals met Nederlandse ondernemers, veelal boeren, die hun groene stroom aan u en mij verkopen. Ze regelen ook nog eens kosteloos de overstap. Dit concept is nieuw. Een energieleverancier als Greenchoice en vooral het minder bekende Windunie leveren al primair groene stroom. Van de Bron vertaalt het concept echter naar de wereld van nu: de wereld van social media (je kunt contact leggen met een boer bijvoorbeeld), totale ontzorging (in een paar klikken ben je klant) en toch ook aan hip imago; hier wil je bij horen!

Durfinvesteerders

Dat dachten enkele durfinvesteerders en gevestigde namen als Rabobank, Triodos, het Wereld Natuurfonds, de TU Delft en de Universiteit Wageningen ook. Dat resulteerde in de grootste investering voor een start-up in Nederland in 2013: 2,5 miljoen euro. Dat is jaloersmakend, ook omdat zij aan de een na mooiste gracht (Keizersgracht is de master) hun business bestieren. Ter vergelijking: wij tikken onze stukkies in het Grijze Westen van Mokum: de Pief Paf Poef Baarsjes.

  • Wie: Aart van Veller (o.a. Cool Endeavour, Clean Drinks, Groene Bocht), Remco Wilcke (Cool Endeavour, Groene Bocht), Matthijs Guichelaar (Republiq Power) en Michael Fraats (Green Spread, Trianel)
  • Waar: Keizersgracht, Amsterdam
  • Wat: Groene stroom van Nederlandse bodem.
  • Verdienmodel: het vastrecht van Van de Bron (‘abonnement geheten, goedgekeurd door waakhond Autoriteit Consument en Markt) ligt met 10 euro per maand per klant hoger dan normaal. De Eneco’s en Nuon’s van deze wereld rekenen ongeveer de helft minder.
  • Een snelle rekensom leert: 100.000 klanten betekent – alleen op basis van het vastrecht – 1 miljoen euro aan vaste inkomsten per jaar.
  • Verwacht rendement: nog onbekend.

2. miniPower

miniPower heeft mijns inziens één van de meest interessante ideeën van de onlangs afgesloten ‘Smart Energy Program’ van Rockstart. miniPower is Maarten van Winning en Michiel Wanninkhof. Van Winning heeft zijn strepen verdiend als architect en Wanninkhof heeft jarenlang een eigen ICT-onderneming geleid (onbekend op LinkedIn overigens). Ze zijn er nog niet uit wie Mini is en wie Power.

Oude windmolens herplaatsen

Hun idee is simpel: oude windmolens die in Nederland overbodig zijn, herplaatsen in andere landen. Naar eigen zeggen kan hiermee dezelfde hoeveelheid stroom worden opgewekt voor de helft van het geld. Ze zijn terecht ambitieus met dit mooie plan: de komende drie jaar willen ze 10 windparken in het buitenland laten optrekken. In totaal is daarvoor 40 miljoen euro nodig, een peulenschil in de energiesector. Enkele investeerders hapten al toe, maar meer investeringen zijn altijd welkom.

  • Waar: De Zonnewijser, Herengracht, Amsterdam
  • Gezien: Smart Energy Program van Rockstart
  • Verwacht rendement: windstroom is de meest goedkope, groene stroom die er is. In Nederland haalt het windpark in Houten volgens Eneco minstens 4,5 procent rendement voor de inlegger. Windcentrale, die windmolens neerzet via crowdfunding onder particuliere beleggers, rekent met een gemiddeld rendement van 7 procent. Rendementen zijn wel afhankelijk van de nodige parameters zoals windsnelheid, jaarlijkse stroomprijsstijging, inflatie, rente etc.

3. We Share Solar

We Share Solar, ook deelnemer aan het Smart Energy Program, sloeg zijn eerste mijlpaal met het Euroborg-voetbalstadion van FC Groningen (je weet wel, die sympathieke middenmoter met roemruchte spitsen als rookmagiër Milko Djurovski en draaikont Hennie Meijer). Sven Pluut, het cijfermatige brein (ex-Triodos) en Matthijs Olieman (gepokt en gemazeld in het ‘solarteursvak’), wisten 200 nuchtere Groningers (en anderen) warm te krijgen voor zonne-energie via 1MiljoenWatt.

 Zonnepanelen op voetbalstadions

1200 zonnepanelen liggen op het dak, een kunstje waarvoor andere voetbalstadions zich ook kunnen lenen. Waarom niet? De ambitie is om met We Share Solar een platform te creëren waarop allerlei crowdfunding initiatieven kunnen bloeien. Met hun track record en achtergrond moet dan goedkomen. En dan zette Pluut ook nog de meest overtuigende pitch neer tijdens de Rockstart Demo Day. Hopelijk zitten de investeerders niet te slapen…
