Amsterdam-based Bitvavo, a company whose goal is to make the new economy of digital currencies accessible for everyone, announced on Monday that it will be the newest partner of Dutch football and the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB).

With this partnership, the KNVB has added a sixth and final partner to their sponsor strategy, adding to their existing partners ING, Nike, KPN, Albert Heijn, and the Nederlandse Loterij.

“Bitvavo: One of Europe’s leading digital asset exchanges”

Launched in 2018, the company’s goal is to bridge the gap between traditional currencies and digital assets. Bitvavo offers an online exchange platform that makes it possible to buy, sell and save digital currencies in a simple and safe manner.

According to Bitvavo, the crypto market is growing in the Netherlands and becoming more mature. More than 1.6 million people own cryptocurrencies in the country and more than a million of them are Bitvavo customers. The company is registered as a digital currency exchange at the Central Bank of the Netherlands (DNB).

Bitvavo makes digital currencies available by providing low transaction fees, a large scale of different digital currencies and an ‘easy to use’ app.

The partnership

Through this partnership, which will run at least until the end of 2024, both Bitvavo and the KNVB want to explore digital innovation in the footballing world and make the Netherlands aware of a safe and secure way to buy, sell and invest in cryptocurrency.

According to Mark Nuvelstijn, co-founder of Bitvavo, the market for digital currencies is witnessing high growth. More and more people are choosing to invest in digital currencies and make them part of their broader investment portfolio. Through this partnership, Bitvavo wants to make a broader group of the Dutch population familiar with safe trading in digital currencies.

“We want to help the KNVB and the millions of Dutch football fans see the possibilities in the new digital economy,” adds Nubelstijn.

Around the world, providers and trading platforms for digital currencies are venturing into sport sponsoring, including football. Jean Paul Decossaux, Commercial Director of the KNVB, says, “Cryptocurrencies is a young product that has been embraced by a big audience in a short period of time. In this growing market, many new players have emerged and are looking at ways to use sports sponsoring to establish their brands. With Bitvavo we see an ambitious and entrepreneurial organisation that can support us with innovative technology. Due to our loyal partners, we are able to continue to invest in football in the Netherlands.”
