Mobility Lab, a startup programme to help market and scale innovative prototypes in mobility, announced that several startups that participated in the sixth edition of the programme secured a collaboration with a first client after speed dates with launching customers.

This year, 19 companies participated, selected from 41 applications from the Netherlands and abroad.

During the collaboration, the startups will test their innovations, gain crucial information, and take steps in their development.

The startups that secured a pilot or field test with a first client include:

Student Mobility

Student Mobility provides mobility solutions for international students in the Netherlands, making the sustainable choice to use public transportation enticing and easy.

Together with Tilburg University, they are working on a pilot where their mobility solutions will be tested by students.

Appacar

Appacar provides delivery of shared electric cars to companies and individuals, on-demand and at their doorstep.

The startup is starting a pilot in cooperation with several cities, including Tilburg and Helmond.

Scenwise

Scenwise‘s unique algorithm can distinguish between traffic congestion and accidents.

This can significantly speed up the incident management process, reduce traffic fatalities, and through early activation of detour routes, also reduce congestion.

Far-reaching discussions are underway with the province of North Brabant, among others, to test Scenwise’s algorithm.

Green Caravan, Appacar

Green Caravan is developing 100 per cent fossil-free charging hubs for electric cars and trucks.

Together with the municipality of Barendrecht and MobilityHub, they are starting a pilot through which a covered charging plaza with shared electric cars and a solar roof will be developed.

Startup Appacar is also joining this pilot and will take care of the delivery of the shared cars to customers in the nearby area.

Buus

Buus‘ platform helps companies organise and automate group transportation for their employees.

Buus is getting started with a pilot in the Port of Rotterdam, where they will work together with shipping company ECT to organise and improve their shuttle transport.

Real-Time Road Inspection

Real-Time Road Inspection provides up-to-date images of the condition of Dutch roads and public spaces.

Together with traffic school Verkeersschool Koos van der Bilt, the startup has started a partnership in which several of the traffic school’s teaching cars are equipped with a built-in dashcam.

The company is also in talks with a South Holland launching customer about equipping collection trucks with 360-degree cameras.

Foreign startups

Wingdriver

American startup Wingdriver can monitor the facial expressions of car drivers in real-time.

When the driver is in danger of falling asleep, for example, the technology will alert them.

Together with a well-known insurer, Wingdriver is testing the technology with the help of a small group of car drivers.

Levante

Italian startup Levante is making renewable energy accessible everywhere through a smart and foldable solar panel.

Levante will soon collaborate with consulting firm Enerless on a pilot in the field of sustainable and green energy.

Mobility Labs also mentioned that several other participants are still working hard to secure interest in their services.

Mobility Labs: Focuses on better accessibility of the Rotterdam region

Mobility Lab was founded in 2017 and was originally an initiative of ‘De Verkeersonderneming’, which in recent years focuses on better accessibility of the Rotterdam region.

Other partners besides the municipality of Rotterdam are SmartwayZ.NL, the innovative mobility programme of the Southern Netherlands; the province of North Brabant; the province of Limburg; and since this year, the province of Utrecht.

To date, 92 startups from the Netherlands and abroad have participated in Mobility Lab.

During its six editions, Mobility Lab has led to more than 370 new jobs, and the startups have raised over €98M in investments to scale up after 39 successful pilots.

Mobility Lab has created pilots at several municipalities, Ahoy, the Efteling, Eindhoven Airport, RET Rotterdam, and Dura Vermeer, among others.

Well-known participants from previous editions include Amber, Felyx, Cargoroo, Tiler, SD Insights, Citysteps, Juuve, and Samotics.
