The Shell Impact Fund, which backs entrepreneurs dedicated to a just and inclusive energy transition, announced that it has added four new companies to its portfolio.

These companies focus on providing solutions that assist households and small businesses in navigating the energy transition.

Anne Schreuder, Societal Impact Director at Shell and Chairman of the Fund’s Investment Committee, announced the development via LinkedIn post.

She says, “As Chairman of the Investment Committee, I’m thrilled to announce our four new portfolio companies joining the Shell Impact Fund!”

“Established to support ventures helping vulnerable households and small businesses navigate the energy transition, the Fund has reviewed over 70 applications since its February launch. Most focused on technological innovation, which is essential for solving energy challenges.”

“Going forward we’re keen to explore more financial and social innovations to create a holistic approach to sustainable energy solutions – so if you’re working on that, you know where to find us!” adds Schreuder.

Meet the new portfolio companies

homii

Amsterdam-based homii is a data hub for housing corporations, specialising in collective energy management.

By making energy consumption and costs predictable and transparent for block connections, homii ensures that both housing corporations and tenants have a clear understanding of their energy usage, helping to prevent unexpected expenses.

The company’s mission is to promote affordability through predictability.

GEHECO

Delft-based GEHECO aims to enable carbon-neutral heating in as many buildings as possible by improving the installation process for water-to-water (Brine) heat pumps.

According to the startup, these pumps are among the most efficient ways to reduce CO2 emissions for heating, but the current challenge lies in the costly and complex well-drilling process.

GEHECO is developing a more compact and affordable solution for laying wells, allowing installations in locations where traditional methods are not feasible, helping drive the transition to CO2-neutral heating systems.

KlimaShift

Dutch-based KlimaShift is a virtual management platform that helps businesses track energy usage and perform timely maintenance to improve energy efficiency. “Our goal is to democratise access to data and tools for decarbonising our built environment,” says the startup.

KlimaShift’s mission is to combat climate change by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, providing clean energy solutions for both small businesses and innovators in the energy sector.

Energiewending

Energiewending is a community-driven Amsterdam-West initiative offering free energy advice and home improvements to help residents reduce their energy bills. The team, comprised of locals from various neighbourhoods in West, aims to serve a wide range of residents, making energy efficiency accessible to all.

Invitation to innovators

Shell aims to lead the shift to cleaner energy through various initiatives. At the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam, Shell supports new technologies via GameChanger and invests in innovative energy solutions through Shell Ventures

The Shell Impact Fund complements these efforts by providing financial support, guidance, and network access to social enterprises and impact ventures working towards a just and inclusive energy transition.

This revolving fund helps ventures develop their products, increase their impact, and become financially robust, with follow-up investments reinvested into the fund.

The Shell Impact Fund is also open to exploring opportunities outside its immediate criteria.
Schreuder extended an invitation to innovators in the energy transition space, noting, “Even if you don’t meet our Fund’s criteria but do meaningful work in this domain, reach out! We may be able to support you through other programmes we run.”
