Throughout the years, the tech industry has continued to grow and introduce new tools — Europe is no stranger to this trend. European-based companies are leading in AI innovation and their tools are used in diverse industries around the world, from photography to marketing.
According to a report by Tipalti, a French-made AI tool called CleanUp.pictures was ranked in 10th place as one of the best AI tools in terms of worldwide usage.
Meanwhile, the Polish-made Live Chat was ranked fifth as the most searched AI tool on Google. These results demonstrate the widespread global application of European-made AI tools.
Europe’s commitment to AI development was further reinforced several years ago. In June 2021, the European Commission and the ADR association signed a Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a partnership with the AI, Data, and Robotics Association (ADRA). The partnership focuses on addressing the challenges of generative AI and its application in the robotics field.
In late 2022, funding for startups focused on artificial intelligence (AI) surpassed $1.4B (€1.2B), according to a report from Statista. Many Europe-based companies are currently focusing on exploring and deploying AI, being ahead of the global average.
With the region at the forefront of developing AI technology, it is expected that Europe’s contribution will significantly impact the industry. Here’s a closer look at some of Europe’s most recent AI tools.
PortraitPro24
Company: Anthropics Technology
Anthropics Technology, a UK-based software research and development company, has launched PortraitPro 24. At its core, the AI-powered retouching software comprises a unique set of generative AI modules that intelligently enhance specific portrait areas.
The enhancement strength can be adjusted using the adjustable sliders, which provides a new portrait editing method.
PortraitPro24 has several key features, including Mouth Inpainting & Teeth Replacer, Glasses Reflection Remover, Face Recovery, Skin and Hair masks, Improved workflow, and New gender and age detector.
AI has a huge role in the operations of these features. For example, the Mouth Inpainting & Teeth Replacer allows users to easily adjust the shapes and textures of the mouth, resolving common problems like discolouration and chapped lips thanks to advanced algorithms.
With three different software editions, PortraitPro 24 is available to download on Windows and macOS devices.
AI Assistant
Company: Klarna
The Stockholm-based fintech company named Klarna partnered with OpenAI to launch its AI assistant. The assistant in the Klarna app was created to improve online shopping and payment experiences for its customers worldwide.
With this launch, Klarna has taken a big step towards fulfilling its vision of becoming a fully AI-powered financial assistant that is efficient and customer-focused.
With various features, the AI assistant can handle various tasks, such as managing returns and refunds, encouraging responsible financial practices, and providing multilingual customer support. The company is developing new features to enhance the assistant’s capabilities.
After its launch, the AI assistant has handled two-thirds of Klarna‘s customer service chats or 2.3 million conversations. This is equivalent to the amount of work of 700 full-time agents.
The AI assistant guarantees inclusivity and accessibility for Klarna’s 150 million global customers by functioning in 23 markets and speaking more than 35 languages.
Experiment and Optimize
Company: Orq.ai
Netherlands-based generative AI platform Orq.ai, which recently secured €1.5M in growth funding, has introduced two new products — Experiment and Optimize.
These additions aim to enhance cross-organisational collaboration by integrating with large language models (LLMs) and provide flexibility for independent use within organisations.
With the help of complex algorithms, Experiment streamlines the testing of Generative AI use cases, prompts, and data sets in large batches across more than 75 models. It delivers custom controls for quality, cost, and performance.
Meanwhile, Optimize allows domain experts to make improvements and fine-tune model interactions through real-time analytics.
“The complexity and speed of new possibilities in Generative AI requires a new way of working and new tools for organisations. Our goal is to demystify AI by making it accessible to everyone,” says Orq.ai Sohrab Hosseini.
GenAI Data Services
Company: RWS
RWS, an England-based company specialising in technology-powered language, content, and intellectual property services, introduced a comprehensive suite of AI Data Services in its TrainAI.
The launch aims to assist businesses in developing precise and reliable Generative AI (GenAI) applications while mitigating the risk of bias and hallucinations in their GenAI innovations.
The TrainAI GenAI data services utilise a network of location-specific, vetted, and qualified domain experts from the TrainAI community to perform red teaming, refine responses, and engineer prompts.
The GenAI data services offer various services, which include domain expertise, prompt engineering, reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), and Red teaming and jailbreaking.
TrainAI’s GenAI services have benefited international-level organisations. A US multinational technology company partnered with TrainAI to optimise its LLM with the help of content from the TrainAI community domain experts.
More than 200 domain experts completed their work within three months, resulting in a successful launch of the client’s latest version of LLM.
AI Avatar Rendering
Company: Copresence
Copresence, a Swiss-based tech company that specialises in digital avatar generation software, launched AI avatar rendering in its platform, demonstrating the differences between computer graphics-generated and AI-generated avatars.
Following the feature’s release, Copresence’s platform now provides two different methods for creating avatars, traditional 3D assets created from computer graphics (CG avatars) as well as AI avatars where, each of which has its own special qualities.
Unlike the CG avatars, the AI avatars focus on photorealism that goes beyond ‘uncanny valley.’ With the ability to capture the details of facial expressions, these AI avatars are currently rendered in real-time at 60 frames per second on consumer laptops using proprietary neural network software.
This makes an excellent solution for XR-based video conferencing and applications that require real-time interactions.
AI-powered Innovation Hub
Company: WordLift
