Dutch photonic chipmaker EFFECT Photonics raises additional €20.4M to accelerate optical innovation

Eindhoven-based EFFECT Photonics, a provider of next-generation coherent optical solutions for data centre and edge networks, has raised an additional $24M (approximately €20.4M) as part of its Series D financing round.

This funding round brings the total raised in the round to $62M (approximately €52.6M).

“This funding milestone reinforces the strong market demand we’re seeing and allows us to execute aggressively on our roadmap,” says Roberto Marcoccia, CEO of EFFECT Photonics. “We’re grateful for the continued support of our investors and partners as we scale to meet the needs of a rapidly growing optical interconnect market.”

The announcement comes over a year after raising €34.95M in a Series D round of funding.

Founded in 2010 by Dr. Boudewijn Docter and Tim Koene-Ong, EFFECT Photonics is a spin-off from the Eindhoven University of Technology that specialises in crafting photonic chips that leverage light, not electricity, to transfer information.

The company offers compact integrated solutions using its proprietary technologies –Digital Signal Processing, Forward Error Correction, and Ultra-pure Light Sources. 

The company’s focus is on affordability, scalability, and reliability to meet the challenges of 5G, access-ready coherent solutions, and cloud and cloud edge services.

The company’s headquarters are in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. It also maintains offices in the UK, the US, and Taiwan, bolstered by an extensive network of sales partners.
