Utrecht-based TrianecT, a medtech company specialising in acute stroke diagnostics, has secured €1.35M from XO Ventures and CbusineZ.
The investment will support the commercial development and market launch of StrokePointer, a portable device that can assess the severity of a stroke while the patient is still in the ambulance.
CEO and co-founder Wouter Potters adds, “Thanks to this investment, and the strategic involvement of our new partners, we can accelerate the translation of our technology from scientific breakthrough to real-world application. This will ensure every stroke patient receives faster and better care.”
What does TrianceT solve?
Stroke is a major health concern, with 1 in 4 people over 25 at risk, and a third of all global healthcare costs are spent on stroke.
Fast treatment is essential to improve the outcome of patients with an acute ischemic stroke, because time is of the essence.
Currently, over 50 per cent of the large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke patients are transported to a hospital without endovascular treatment, causing them to be transported again. This delays endovascular treatment of LVO stroke by 60 minutes.
TrianecT: Providing the right treatment for strokes at the right time
Neurologist Jonathan Coutinho, technical physician Wouter Potters, and Professor Henk Marquering from Amsterdam UMC, along with AMC Ventures and German Neuromotion Ventures, founded TrianecT in September 2022.
Around one-third of global healthcare costs are spent on strokes. Rapid and accurate treatment is crucial; every minute counts.
The Dutch company has developed a portable device, StrokePointer, which enables ambulance professionals to immediately recognise a severe stroke, such as an LVO (large vessel occlusion), and transport patients directly to a specialised treatment centre.
Similar to the electrocardiogram (ECG) for cardiac patients, the company’s technology measures electrical brain activity (EEG) to determine the right hospital and the right treatment.
“This innovation fits perfectly with our mission to make healthcare more efficient and patient-centred,” says Karel Stolper, board member of CbusineZ. “StrokePointer enables faster triage, in the right place and at the right time.”
