Sir Keir Starmer, UK Prime Minister, says, “In this age of AI, I want the UK to be the destination of choice for companies at the forefront of technological change, and renowned for harnessing homegrown talent and building sovereign capability.”

“These major announcements mark a decisive step towards the UK becoming a world leader in AI, meaning more jobs and investment, more money in people’s pockets, and transformed public services — all part of our Plan for Change,” adds Starmer.

Building Nscale AI campus

Nscale and Microsoft plan to develop the Nscale AI Campus in Loughton, which will be the largest AI supercomputer in the UK.

The facility will offer 50 MW of AI capacity, expandable to 90 MW, and will initially include 23,040 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2027.

This supercomputer will help provide Microsoft’s Azure services across the UK and support various industries.

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, says, “We are building the digital infrastructure for the AI era, deepening the connection between the US and UK and creating new opportunities in both nations. Together with Nscale, we are proud to announce the UK’s largest supercomputer, powered by over 23,000 GPUs.”

NVIDIA investing up to €12.67B

NVIDIA announced a £11B (approximately €12.67B) investment to accelerate the AI industrial revolution in the United Kingdom, partnering with CoreWeave, Microsoft, and Nscale to deliver the country’s next generation of AI infrastructure.

By the end of 2026, the companies will build and operate AI factories that will power leading AI models, including those from OpenAI.

As part of this investment, up to £11B will be committed to UK data centres, featuring the largest GPU rollout in the nation’s history with 120,000 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs.

NVIDIA is also supporting UK cloud partner Nscale with a global expansion plan to deploy 300,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs across the United States, Portugal, Norway, and the UK, where 60,000 GPUs are already being established.

Developing Stargate UK

Nscale, OpenAI, and NVIDIA are working together to create Stargate UK, a platform for deploying OpenAI’s technology in the UK, focusing on specific workloads.

OpenAI plans to acquire up to 8,000 NVIDIA GPUs in the first quarter of 2026, with the option to increase to 31,000 in the future. Stargate UK will have several locations in the UK, including Cobalt Park, part of the new AI Growth Zone in the North East.

Nscale also plans to deploy 4,600 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs in collaboration with NVIDIA DGX Cloud for the DGX Lepton Marketplace, which will support AI developers nationwide.

Overall, Nscale aims to deploy 58,640 NVIDIA GPUs in the UK as part of a larger plan to distribute 300,000 GPUs globally.

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, says, “Today marks a historic chapter in U.S.–United Kingdom technology collaboration. We are at the Big Bang of the AI era — and the United Kingdom stands in a Goldilocks position, where world-class talent, research and industry converge. By building state-of-the-art AI infrastructure and investing in British startups, we are unlocking the power of AI for the U.K. — fuelling breakthroughs, creating jobs, and igniting the next industrial revolution.”
