Why Amazon Dating is a hilarious dating service

Amazon Dating has – apparently – launched as a new service, which, erm, isn’t really about dating in the traditional sense.

With Valentine’s day fast approaching, it’s not uncommon for singles to turn to dating services. There are multiple dating apps and websites which can help people find someone who clicks with them.

While dating services like Tinder, Bumble and others are standard apps, the social media giant Facebook also announced that it would soon roll out its dating service for everyone. However, wouldn’t it be really convenient to buy a new dating partner simply?

Before you question, “is Amazon Dating real” and rush to report us, hear us out. 

Amazondating.co is a website where you can browse through “Hot Single Near You” and buy one or two singles that you like.

Every listing on Amazon Dating is of an individual who is single, and there’s even a price tag! Additionally, if you are a prime member, there’s free one-hour delivery as well. 

Needless to say, this is a well-designed Valentine’s day parody. 

Amazon Dating, is it real?

No, the Amazon Dating website is not a real legitimate service, but it is one heck of a parody. While most people will fret about seeing a price tag on another human, it should be noted that Amazon Dating is nothing more than a joke.

However, if you can look past that, Amazon Dating seems stunningly believable, with its user interface resembling Amazon and even the sub-menu options working with active links. Here’s a screenshot of how the website looks. 

The listings are also quite amusing. Click on one, and there’s a humorous description for the person you are viewing.

For example, Amy is currently the app’s bestseller, apparently trained as a barista, is famous on TikTok, and has a child and ‘warning:’ she won’t text back.

One can select the height of the person and their love language as well, before proceeding to Amazon Dating’s checkout page. 

So, what happens when you buy someone? Nothing. Absolutely nothing since the parody website already has a dummy address filled in and a payment method. After placing an order, you will also get a fake order number.

Also, don’t forget to check out the user reviews! Yup, every listing on the website has carefully curated user reviews that can tickle your ribs.

One website review for ‘Grace’ reads, “Works as you’d imagine! A little bit trickier to turn on, which is kind of frustrating if you’re a perfectionist. Still, you’ll get one of the most powerful for the price.”

Who did this?

Going by the About section on the website, the project was led by the creative duo Ani Acopian and Suzy Shinn. The site is built by the company Thinko, and as one would’ve guessed, it’s not really a service or parody by Amazon.

Acopian tweeted that she partnered with Amazon to build the website, but Amazon has not confirmed the same via any of its social media handles.
