The current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic has notably impacted some sectors. Real-estate and hospitality industry are hit real hard as people stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel. The Amsterdam-based sustainable parking startup Mobypark is helping establishments in sectors hit hard by the coronavirus. The company’s peer-to-peer platform enables companies to open up their private parking spaces for the public and earn revenue in the process. Here’s how it works.

Mobypark: Sharing platform for parking

Reduced footfall from tourists and travellers is costing businesses such as hotels and other hospitality establishments. Similarly, with work from home being the new norm, office spaces are also incurring a loss. Mobypark’s platform offers an opportunity for such establishments to open up their private parking spots for travellers and commuters across europe. This in turn helps them generate revenue and consumers on the platform can save time and money.

The startup has also hit a new milestone of 100,000 bookings on its platform. “We have placed a big focus on hotels and real estate to optimise their parking facilities and bring them extra revenue,” says Jaap Sybenga, CEO of Mobypark. “We are glad that we can help companies and individuals earn extra income, especially now. We always try to think of more ways to help the city and its people. Earlier this year, for example, we offered free parking to healthcare professionals.”

Reducing emissions, saving time and money

Finding parking spaces can be a difficult task, especially in certain regions. Mobypark not only opens up more parking spaces via its platform, but it also helps reduce emissions. As per the company, one can spend about 20 minutes looking for a parking space, even though 50% of parking spaces are unused in cities. This leads to increased traffic, wasted space and increased CO2 emissions.

The company was founded by Manuel Cayre, Katrin Marx and Yoann Benhacoun. Its services were launched back in July 2012 in Amsterdam and Paris. It has now offered the 100,000th booking via its platform, which accumulated to about 660,000 hours of saved time and over 7 million kg of CO2 stopped from being spewed into the environment, the startup notes. After starting out in 2012, the company has raised a total of €1.4M till date.
