Last update:

Munich-based ARX Robotics, a defence tech startup focused on unmanned autonomous land systems, announced the opening of a production facility for military robotic systems in the Munich metropolitan region.

The facility enables ARX Robotics to manufacture autonomous military robotic systems at scale.

Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of Arx Robotics, says, “The opening of our new facility is a major milestone for us – not only with regards to the company’s mission but in the light of our strong commitment to supporting Ukraine.”

“European armed forces face a structural disadvantage in mass of personnel and equipment compared to potential adversaries. Unmanned systems have the potential to bridge this capability gap—provided they can be produced at scale.”

“Our new facility represents a significant step toward achieving this goal, enhancing Europe’s strategic autonomy and defence resilience.”

Advancing autonomous military systems

ARX Robotics has officially inaugurated its production plant, marking a significant milestone in its growth. The event was attended by German Bundestag members Florian Hahn (CSU) and Dr. Andreas Lenz (CSU).

This development signals ARX Robotics’ transition into the scale-up phase, enabling large-scale production of autonomous military robotic systems to enhance defence capabilities and technological leadership.

With its new facility now operational, the company aims to expand manufacturing, establish new defence partnerships, and drive innovation in autonomous systems.

This milestone strengthens global defence capabilities, providing allied forces with robotic solutions for evolving security challenges.

“Innovation needs courage and support – we must take responsibility”, says Florian Hahn. “Germany’s role in European security is shaped by its forward-thinking companies, especially in fields like software-defined defence and artificial intelligence.”

Dr. Andreas Lenz, adds, “What we see here today is not only technical and economic excellence but real military understanding.”

ARX Robotics: Everything you need to know

Founded by Marc Wietfeld, Stefan Roebel, and Maximilian Wied, ARX Robotics is a venture capital-financed startup in the field of defence tech. It specialises in autonomous unmanned ground systems with scalable hardware and software architectures.

The dual-use robotics company develops modular platforms aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency, and safety across industries.

ARX systems are currently being deployed, procured, or tested by seven European armed forces for applications including reconnaissance, surveillance, transportation, CASEVAC, training, and simulation.

The company has increased its unmanned systems production capacity thirtyfold in the past six months, enabling large-scale manufacturing. It has also completed the largest deployment of Western-designed unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in Ukraine, reinforcing its commitment to European and global security.

In December 2024, ARX Robotics announced ARX Mithra OS, an independent AI-based operating system that can transform all military vehicles into intelligent, interconnected autonomous units.

In June 2024, the company closed its seed funding round at €9M, marking the largest seed round for a European defence tech company to date.
