Amsterdam-based Billie Wonder, a provider of hemp-based diapers delivered as a product-as-service, is raising €800K in funding. The company has already secured €600K and is seeking 2–4 additional angel investors to support expansion.
Billie Wonder is targeting investors with experience in consumer packaged goods, sustainability, or B2B scaling. The company seeks individuals with networks in childcare, hospitals, or retail who are willing to support a long-term operational model.
Founded in 2022, Billie Wonder supplies daycare centres and hospitals with reusable diapers. The company aims to shift the diaper market from single-use products toward a circular model.
Capital utilisation
The Dutch company will use the funds to scale operations to 150 daycare locations. This includes production capacity, logistics for pick-up and delivery, and support for new customers’ onboarding.
The company also plans to invest in systems that track usage, cleaning, and inventory to optimise the service model.
Washable diapers and Hemp-based products
Founded by Steef Fleur, Billie Wonder provides washable diapers designed to reduce waste and support sustainable practices in childcare. The company works with daycare centres, hospitals, and parents to offer a reusable alternative to disposable diapers.
The diapers use two types of fabric: water-resistant and absorbent. The water-resistant layer is made of PUL (Polyurethane Laminated fabric), which allows repeated cleaning and use. The absorbent inserts are made of 55 per cent hemp and 45 per cent Oeko-Tex certified organic cotton. Organic standards for hemp are not yet established.
Billie Wonder has partnered with Tiny Library, a Dutch initiative that rents baby products. Through this partnership, parents can rent Billie Wonder diapers instead of purchasing them. Rental options include the Full Kit and the Bin, which includes two laundry nets. This allows parents to test the diapers or use them for a limited period without producing waste.
Billie Wonder also collaborates with Volatile, a local essential oil and aromatherapy company, to produce Hemp Oil. The formula contains 65 per cent cold-pressed hemp seed oil, chamomile, calendula, and manuka. The oil supports skin barriers with antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties.
The founder
Steef Fleur was capturing the hemp and marijuana industry in Northern California as a photographer in 2015. During this work, she noticed a child wearing a washable diaper, which made her start thinking about why reusable diapers weren’t more widely used. This observation sparked her curiosity and led her to research hemp and its various applications.
Later, in 2017, after the birth of her son, Fleur launched the Billie Wonder web shop, initially selling existing washable diaper brands. She identified a need for products that combined functionality, sustainability, and design.
By 2022, Billie Wonder expanded to offer its own line of diapers and accessories, following a reusable and organic model.
