France-based Byome Labs, a deeptech startup, has raised €3.6M to develop technology for personalised cosmetic care using the skin microbiome.

The funding includes participation from Paris Business Angels (PBA), Remora Biotech, Angels Santé, and several strategic business angels.

In a statement translated from French, Eric Maugein, Byome Labs’ business angel at PBA, says, “We are very proud to have Byome Labs in our portfolio. The cosmetics market is huge, and the personalised approach to each consumer is central to the research of cosmetics groups.”

“Byome Labs’ research will allow us to conduct a precise study of each customer’s face at the point of sale in just a few minutes, and recommend the best products for their skin. This is potentially a revolution in the market. David and his top-notch team within an integrated laboratory are far ahead of the curve and are recognised by the industry.”

Maugein further adds, “The upcoming launch of the finished product is very promising, and many prestigious companies such as Clarins and Shiseido are in advanced negotiations to market the in-store kit as soon as it goes into production, expected by the end of 2025.”

Creating personalised cosmetic care solutions

Founded in 2023 by David Suissa, Byome Labs develops in vitro skin microbiome diagnostics and technology to recommend suitable skin care products within minutes at the point of sale.

The company also analyses skin, scalp, oral, and vaginal microbiomes and works with brands and manufacturers to assess and optimise the microbiome impact of their products.

Byome Labs has built a database of over 5,000 microbiomes and developed its own AI to create personalised skincare solutions.

Its flagship product, Byome Derma, can quickly analyse a person’s skin at the point of sale, without the need for devices or invasive methods, and suggest the most suitable skincare products. The company aims to become a key enabler of more precise and tailored cosmetic care.

Byome Labs is supported by Bpifrance (Deeptech), French Tech, Cosmetic Valley, École Polytechnique, Dev’Up Centre Val de Loire, and Village by CA.

Capital utilisation

Byome Labs will use the funds to launch industrial production of its Byome Derma kits by the end of 2025, expand its R&D and business teams, and prepare for international expansion in Europe, the United States, and Asia starting in 2026.
