Eindhoven-based Carbyon, a Direct Air Capture (DAC) startup working on technology to address climate change, has received a strategic investment from ISAI Build Venture, a fund established by ISAI and Bouygues.
This investment represents an extension of Carbyon’s €15.3M Series A funding round, which was originally closed in September 2024.
The Dutch company has developed a patented “fast swing” technology to capture CO2 directly from the atmosphere. This process increases CO2 capacity and reduces unit, energy, and project costs, supporting broader deployment.
The investment aims to support Carbyon’s expansion and technological development.
Restoring the atmospheric carbon balance
Hans De Neve founded Carbyon in 2019 as a spin-off from the research institute TNO in the Netherlands. The company develops direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere for underground storage or conversion into products.
The company’s filter technology operates 200 times faster on CO2 than traditional filters, using what Carbyon calls “fast swing” technology. President Macron had also visited Carbyon at VivaTech to learn about their Direct Air Capture technology.
Carbyon aims to make carbon removal technology scalable and cost-effective as part of global efforts to reach net-zero emissions. The company continues to develop its patented technology for deployment at scale.
In 2025, Carbyon was selected as one of 12 companies for a CO2 capture pilot programme in Canada. The company won the $1M Milestone Award from the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition.
Carbyon partners with Bouygues
Carbyon has entered into a strategic partnership with Paris-based Bouygues to accelerate the deployment of its Direct Air Capture technology. Bouygues brings process engineering experience that supports the scale-up of Carbyon’s systems.
The partnership also opens pathways for Carbyon to enter sectors such as green chemicals, including sustainable aviation fuel, e-methane, and e-methanol. With this support, Carbyon plans to advance the development of its technology and expand its reach.
