Amsterdam-based Cheflix, a streaming platform that provides masterclasses from Michelin chefs and experts, claims to have witnessed a huge success since its launch in January 2021. Aided by the lockdown and curfew, tens of thousands of members subscribed in a short time.
The startup has now announced that it has raised €2M in a fresh round of funding.
Capital for new productions, marketing and team
The proceeds from this round will help Cheflix accelerate its international growth, starting in the UK and Scandinavia. The funds will also be used to produce new master classes with the largest and best-known international star chefs in the world. Their website will be online in December 2021.
In addition to the collaboration with great chefs, significant investments are also made in the quality of the films.
Jeroen van den Brink, co-founder of Cheflix, says, “These international masterclasses are in fact like small feature films. The films are unique in that we make the recordings at the chefs’ homes in their own kitchen or at beautiful locations such as a vineyard.”
With the raised capital, Cheflix says large and well-known international top chefs will soon be added from among others the top 10 best chefs in the world. The investment will continue to be used for marketing and team expansion.
Cheflix app
Besides the launch of the website, Cheflix will also present an app that will allow cooking enthusiasts to easily stream Cheflix via smartphone, tablet, and even TV.
The company reports to have invested in the app’s User Experience (UX) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to be able to present customised content for each member. “Cooking enthusiasts who are vegetarian, for example, will not see recipes with meat in their timeline,” says Jeroen van den Brink.
“Learn from the world’s greatest chefs”
Founded in 2021 by Thomas van Burg and Jeroen van den Brink, Cheflix is a streaming platform for everyone who loves cooking and good food. The best Michelin star chefs, such as Jacob-Jan Boerma, Ron Blaauw and Hans van Wolde, teach step-by-step how to quickly and easily put great dishes on the table.
The platform provides online masterclasses that consist of approximately 15 video lessons of an average of 10 minutes each in order to help users learn in their own way and at their own pace. With each masterclass, users can download a workbook with all the recipes, to take notes and have handy shopping lists immediately at hand.
In a statement, Cheflix says it started with online cooking masterclasses from the best star chefs in the Netherlands, including Jacob-Jan Boerma, Ron Blaauw, and Hans van Wolde. In the summer of 2021, members could also learn from masterclasses by top chefs from Belgium such as Viki Geunes and Roger van Damme.
In addition to cooking lessons from well-known chefs, viewers can also learn all about wines, champagne, cocktails, and bread baking. In the future, the company expects to provide masterclasses on perfect “dinner speech”, etiquette and food styling.
