Newcastle-based Circadacare, an independent living tech company, secures £1.3M (approximately €1.51M) in a fresh round of funding.

Circadacare integrates circadian light tech with a “unique” monitoring platform, enhancing wellness and supporting independent living.

The funds will help the company drive development and expansion, focusing on product research, team growth, and market opportunities.

Investors supporting Circadacare

Northstar Ventures led the round with support from private and venture capital investors. Additionally, the company received a match-funded partnership award of £358K from Healthy Ageing Innovate UK and £80K from the Longitude Prize on Dementia.

Tallie Bush, Product Director at Circadacare says, “We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to our investors, Innovate UK, and our dedicated team for their ongoing support.”

“We’re excited about what the future holds for Circadacare and are committed to continuing to develop our technology so that it enables the delivery of effective care for everyone in need of support.”

“The continued support from our investors,  along with the recognition from Innovate UK, speaks to the potential they see in our  work and the need for enhanced independent living solutions.”

Richard Charnley, Investment Director at Northstar Ventures adds, “We are proud to invest in an organisation such as Circadacare who provide a healthy ageing solution to help people live independently for longer.”

“Their technology has the potential to massively reduce people’s reliance on healthcare providers and give peace of mind to families and caregivers. We fully support Circadacare’s expansion and believe they will grow from strength to strength.”

A science-led health tech company

In the UK, over 920,000 people have dementia, costing £35B, with 85 per cent attributed to social and unpaid care. Circadacare’s light tech supports sleep, reduces falls, improves cognition, and alleviates ‘sundowning’.

Sundowning, common in Alzheimer’s and dementia, is a state of confusion or distress experienced towards the end of the day, often causing difficulty sleeping.

Heleos from Circadacare, an easy-to-install light bulb, offers consistent home lighting and real-time monitoring to detect deviations in behaviour.

With 61 per cent of those with dementia living at home, Circadacare’s technology supports sleep, reduces ‘sundowning’ and falls, enabling people to stay home longer, enhancing life quality, and easing the strain on social care resources.

James Theobald, Founder of Circadacare says, “We appreciate this vote of confidence from our investors and Innovate UK. This funding and award will help us to continue our mission of helping individuals live independently for longer.

“By harnessing the combined potential of circadian light technology and advanced AI monitoring we can deliver top-tier independent living solutions.”
