Delft-based Arceon, a company developing Advanced Ceramic Matrix Composites (ArCMC) to improve materials and structures, announced on Friday, July 7, that it has raised €350K in a fresh round of funding.

The investment came from Early Phase Financing powered by UNIIQ.

The funding was announced by Martijn Leinweber, COO & Community Manager of SBIC Noordwijk.

What does Arceon offer?

According to Arceon, weight is king in the space sector. The best materials are those that are light, robust, and economical at the same time. And this is where Arceon wants to make a difference.

Founded in 2018 by Rahul Shirke, Bernhard Heidenreich and Rahul Sharma, Arceon develops special materials that can endure temperatures as high as 1500 °C.

These composite materials, which include carbon, are far lighter than the special metal-based equivalents currently in use. The so-called ArCMC from Arceon can already be employed in satellite jet engines.

Future technology will also allow for uses like heat shielding for spacecraft returning to Earth through the atmosphere.

With a variety of production process advancements, Arceon also makes it possible to mass-manufacture these ceramic matrix composites.

The company already has a patent on the technology’s in-situ combination of smaller sub-segments. By combining smaller ones, complicated shapes can be created with ease and without additional processing errors.

This results in short lead times while quality is more manageable. It also gives engineers more freedom in their designs.

The company is currently active in the aerospace, aviation, and industrial equipment global markets.

Capital utilisation

Arceon claims it will use the funds to expand the development and marketing of its heat-resistant materials.

In combination with a number of pilot and launch clients, Arceon mentions it will commercialise a number of early products.

The company will also look at applications in other areas, increase the staff by 3 FTE, and bring the necessary hardware in-house.
