D2XCEL powers up 50 ventures to tackle Europe’s biggest environmental challenges

In the race to cut emissions and combat climate change, Europe’s most polluting sectors are under pressure to find innovative solutions. Rising to this challenge, D2XCEL has identified 50 pioneering deep-tech ventures, with a collective funding of over €157 million, to drive sustainability in logistics, freight transportation, energy storage, construction, and smart cities.

D2XCEL, a pan-European scaling initiative funded by the EU, brings together over 300 investors, lead customers, and innovation hubs to support 100 deep-tech and digital ventures. Through tailored mentoring and a blend of virtual and in-person events, startups gain access to a dynamic network, accelerating their growth and expanding their impact across Europe.

Ventures potential

The 50 selected startups are well-positioned for growth. Notably, seven of them come from the Benelux region, including:

T-Mining makes maritime logistics processes more secure and efficient;

Zeal Robotics creates the next generation of autonomous mobile robots for warehouses;

Sealution enables  the future of connectivity below deck;

Gelectric offers IoT-driven solutions for energy efficiency in maritime operations;

Electriq Global  produces safe & practical hydrogen powder powering electricity;

CyBe revolutionizes construction through high-quality 3D printed concrete structures – fast;

Hydrovolta enhances water treatment efficiency, reducing energy consumption and minimizing chemical usage.

Tackling Key Sustainability Challenges

The program aims to address Europe’s most urgent sustainability challenges across five sectors, and the selected ventures are being helped to contribute.

Logistics startups are developing solutions to optimize global supply chains, focusing on Freight Tech, Warehouse Tech, and Last Mile Delivery.  

Sustainable Freight Transportation innovations include hydrogen- and battery-electric trucks, trains, ships, and planes to reduce emissions and increase transport efficiency.

Energy Storage companies are working on large-scale energy storage solutions to manage the intermittency of renewable energy ensuring stable seasonal supply and demand.

Circular Construction startups are pioneering eco-friendly materials and methods to reduce the environmental footprint of the construction industry.

In the Smart Cities vertical, AI-powered services are using advanced algorithms to optimize resource management, enhance public services, and create more sustainable urban environments.

Comprehensive Mentoring and Networking

Over the next six months, the selected startups will receive a 360° mentorship. This includes personalized business coaching, expert-led webinars on key topics such as founder team fundraising and internationalization, and one-on-one consultations with industry experts.
