The future is surely exciting with all the latest technological developments we are witnessing right now. The future of mobility is also being envisioned in various forms, with Hyperloops being one of the most interesting modes of transportation. There are many companies working on completing their own versions of Hyperloop but a notable few are now making some big strides, like the Delft-based Hardt Hyperloop. The startup has now announced of closing a new multi-million euro investment round.

Multi-million-euro investment

An international business consortium led by Dutch clean energy conglomerate Koolen Industries has invested in Hardt Hyperloop. The round was led by the notable entrepreneur, Kees Koolen who is the first investor and former CEO of Booking.com and one of the first investors in Uber. In addition, reknown German fund Freigeist Capital, multiple Dutch and Belgium investors, and the first engineer of Uber, Conrad Whelan, also participated in the funding. The total investment in the company is said to have exceeded 10 million Euros.

“Hardt Hyperloop, with its unique lane switching technology, will change the way we travel, just like Uber did for personal mobility in cities. High-speed zero emission hyperloops will enable everyone to participate in the clean energy transition, without having to quit travelling. And as the hyperloop developed by Hardt is much more than an idea, it is already in a position to offer an affordable and sustainable alternative to the polluting aviation industry,” says the former CEO of Booking.com and an early Uber investor, Koolen.

The next step

The new inbound investments are expected to accelerate Hardt Hyperloop’s pace and it is now is preparing to take the next step. The company will be working on proving hyperloop technologies at high speeds with the European Hyperloop Center, which is a three kilometers hyperloop test facility. As per the CTO of Hardt Hyperloop, Sascha Lamme, the facility will be used to enable hyperloop transportation at speeds of more than 700 km/h.

“We will also be able to expand our team with more talented people, acquiring investors in future investment rounds, and partnering up with additional companies who will get to join our existing partners such as EIT InnoEnergy, the Dutch and German National Railways, Tata Steel, Royal IHC and Royal BAM Group. Together we are making this world-changing type of mobility a reality.” says Lamme.

The European hyperloop system

As we mentioned earlier, there are a few companies working on making Hyperloop transportation a reality. The first European Hyperloop network is equipped with Hyperloop Lane Switch (HLS) technology, which enables hyperloop vehicles to change lanes without any additional or moving components. This means lane switching is possible when vehicles are travelling at high speeds and can effortlessly switch routes, and merge in and out of the network.
