Last update:

Berlin-based Deta, a technology company developing a Personal Cloud Computer (PCC), announced that it has raised $3.6M (approximately €3.3M) in a seed round of funding led by Crane Venture Partners.

The round was also joined by System. One, Tomahawk.VC, Tiny.VC, AngelInvest Ventures, Acequia Capital, NPHard (as angels), founders, and early employees from companies like NGINX and Notion.

The company will use the funds to develop its Space OS.

Besides funding, the German company unveiled Space OS, an operating system that puts users in control of their apps and data.

Space OS: Putting users back in control over their apps & data

Built on Deta Space, Space OS is a web operating system that includes Horizon and Teletype interfaces.

Deta claims OS supports creating, discovering, and using personal content and apps.

Horizon:  With Horizon, users can personalise their interface with elements, including visuals, notes, links, and videos.

The interface also allows users to incorporate personal apps from Deta Discovery and create lightweight apps known as Cards directly within the interface.

These Cards can be manually coded or described to the AI assistant, Teletype, for immediate generation for users without coding skills.

“Recent advances in artificial intelligence have captured the imaginations of many, including us at Deta. While there is a lot of hype, we think these developments will ultimately change how we interact with computers and redefine what we can do and who can do it. We are building Space OS to include AI as a cornerstone,” says the company in a blog post.

The company has also promised to give users the ability to customise Horizon’s look and feel.

Deta is also working on the interoperability of apps where users can call one app from another.

“With Space OS, we are building everything with native interoperability in mind. You can already access and export all of the data for apps you install from Deta Discovery – with a UI or programmatically,” says the company.

Deta: Developing a personal cloud computer

Founded in 2019 by Mustafa Abdelhai and Max Eusterbrock, Deta is developing a personal cloud computer.

Currently, Deta consists of:

  • Deta Cloud: a cloud platform that tried to make it highly approachable for developers to build applications on the internet.
  • Deta Space: It lets users install apps that developers build in their cloud computers where they control their apps and data.
