Leia Inc., a California-based provider of 3D display hardware and content services, announced on Monday, August 7, that it has acquired Veldhoven-based Dimenco, a company in the display technology sector.

This strategic move aims to combine the strengths of both companies to drive the widespread adoption of immersive 3D experiences on various platforms and devices.

The acquisition could also lead to the development of advanced 3D displays and content creation tools, enhancing their position as leaders in the 3D market.

David Fattal, CEO of Leia Inc. says, “We are living in a 3D world, and it’s inevitable that our digital experiences will align with this reality. While VR/AR headsets have their place, the breadth of our technology allows any familiar devices to offer a seamless, immersive 3D experience.”

“Our customers wanted a unified solution across all devices – and this acquisition delivers exactly that,” adds Fattal.

Simulated Reality Display technology

Founded in 2010, Dimenco, which claims to be a leader in spatial visualisation, integrates hardware, software, and technology to create immersive 3D experiences without wearables.

“Our mission is to push boundaries and achieve the dream of simulated reality – one of the world’s biggest developments in 3D,” says the company.

Originating from Royal Philips Electronics, the company is on a mission to revolutionise display interaction through simulated reality and spatial computing using their pioneering SR technology-based products.

Dimenco says its open approach to spatial computing aims to revolutionise interaction and display experiences. The company’s proprietary Built on SR technology has yielded innovative in-house products and assisted OEMs in transitioning to “extraordinary” technology production.

Aim of the acquisition

Leia and Dimenco’s partnership seeks to merge their strengths, eliminating the technological divide. Leia’s focus on Android for mobile and automotive, and Dimenco’s expertise in Windows-based laptops and monitors, will culminate in a cross-platform solution based on industry standards, benefiting customers.

Additionally, Leia’s content ecosystem, encompassing 3D video calling, streaming Hollywood titles, AI platforms, and games, will now be available on all devices following the merger. This expansion aims to offer consumers “unparalleled” immersive experiences.

Maarten Tobias, CEO of Dimenco says, “We’re excited to be part of the Leia family and it delivers perfectly on our promise to provide immersive experiences accessible to anyone, anywhere on any device without the need for wearables.”

“This joint entity is not only setting the industry standard, but it combines cutting edge display technology, an established high volume supply chain and a unique dynamic content ecosystem, both for consumers and professionals,” adds Tobias.

With this merger, Maarten Tobias will become Leia’s Chief Commercial Officer, using his industry experience to enhance Leia’s market presence and streamline team integration, meeting the increasing demand for user-friendly 3D solutions.
