Last update:

Eindhoven-based Morphotonics, a company providing nanoimprinting technology solutions, announced the launch of its Series B financing round on its 10th anniversary, securing over $10M (approximately €9M) in the first closing. A second closing is expected by the end of the year.

The company aims to transform global display technology by advancing 3-D displays, making Augmented Reality (AR) smart glasses more accessible, and providing energy-efficient solutions for mobile devices.

Investors supporting Morphotonics

New investors 3M and BOM (Brabant Development Agency) joined existing backer Innovation Industries, with BOM and Innovation Industries co-leading the round.

Ivana Sersic, Investment Manager at BOM, says, “We are proud about our investment in Morphotonics, co-leading this round with the existing investor. The company works at the forefront of nanoimprint lithography and this investment not only fuels their existing work but also marks a significant step forward in supporting the widespread adoption of next-generation displays.”

Sr. Investment Manager, Jurgen van Eck at BOM, adds, “To BOM this investment adds to the excellent machine building and manufacturing expertise of this region and through this supports our mission to expand on that core competence of North-Brabant and the Netherlands.”

Transforming and expanding people’s visual experiences

With the growing demand for superior visual experiences in everyday digital interactions, Morphotonics is advancing display technology that enhances visual quality and energy efficiency.

Morphotonics, specialising in large-area nanoimprint technology, drives innovation with its Roll-to-Plate (R2P) technology, which can add trillions of lenses over areas larger than one square meter.

This technology supports the creation of next-gen products like high-performance mobile screens, 3D displays, outdoor-readable smartphones, and immersive AR smart glasses.

By combining precision with cost-efficient, large-scale production, Morphotonics makes these advanced technologies commercially viable and accessible, enabling the precise addition of complex structures to substrates like glass or foils.

The company claims to serve top customers across Europe, the US, and Asia with its large-area nanoimprint technology.

Prior to the current fundraising, in June 2023, Morphotonics received a European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Grant.

Capital utilisation

The latest funding will enable Morphotonics to scale operations, expand its global customer base—especially in Asia—and establish fully automated large-area nanoimprinting as a standard in display optics production.

Morphotonics is also poised to build on early successes and better serve leading innovators in display technology.

Jan Matthijs ter Meulen, co-founder & CEO of Morphotonics, says, “We are at the brink of major growth for applications like glasses-free 3D displays and Smart AR Glasses. With this new funding, we will strengthen our market and technical leadership and expand our impact on the consumer electronics and display markets.”
