Delft-based Sensible Healthcare Systems, a company specialised in developing next-generation continuous biosensor platforms, announced the closing of a pre-seed funding round. However, the company didn’t disclose the exact funding figures. 

The financing comes from a group of expert investors including Glass Frog Ventures and the Graduate Entrepreneur Fund. 

Notably, one of the investors, Mart Snoek, will also join the management team as an expert in diabetes care and technology.

Fund utilisation

The Dutch company says it will use the funds to further develop and bring to market Sensible’s minimally-invasive continuous biosensing platform. 

Initially, the focus will be on the diabetes care market, specifically with the development of a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) sensor.

Sensible Healthcare Systems: Developing a next-generation biosensing platform

It was founded in 2018 by a team that includes researchers, engineering experts, and entrepreneurs from the Swiss watch industry. The company claims its mission is to develop highly scalable and cost-effective biosensors with high accuracy. 

Its sensors are based on a single-microneedle design (40x smaller than current sensors’ in-body components) and operate with an open data architecture to allow users to combine the sensor with any treatment solution they wish to use. 

Sensible is currently validating its glucose sensor in humans and has scheduled a medium-sized clinical trial including diabetes patients later this year.

The investors

Glass Frog Ventures represents a group of experienced informal investors that provide funding and support to the founding teams of innovative start-up companies. 

To date, Glass Frog Ventures has invested in over 15 startup companies over the past decade.

Graduate Entrepreneur was founded by alumni of Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. 

It aims to support startup teams emerging from these universities, connecting them with the extensive network of successful founders and operators in their alumni community. 

It is facilitated through various initiatives, including events and incubation activities such as the Philips Innovation Award, YES!Delft, and the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship.
