Noord Brabant-based Eysing, a manufacturer of electric mopeds, announced on Thursday, February 6, that it has gone bankrupt due to the lack of necessary funding.

As a result, the company has decided to cease its operations.

Eysing designs, develops, and manufactures fully electric mopeds with a high-quality design and progressive technology.

“We make no excuses; unfortunately, this is the harsh reality. We take immense pride in the past 10 years we’ve dedicated to this adventure together,” says the company in a LinkedIn post.

“When there is no foreseeable future, one must make the difficult decision to stop. It pains us deeply to have disappointed many, but we still want to express our gratitude to everyone who believed in us over the past years,” adds the company.

The birth of Eysink

Four childhood friends started to design and build an e-moped for themselves based on the design of the classic Dutch Eysink motorbike, the Alpenjager, dated 1938.

They began building three riding Pioneer prototypes in the backyard of their parent’s house.

They learned, discussed, and experimented until the prototypes were completed.

Once they started driving them on the road, the bystanders showed a great deal of interest. In 2018, the four friends introduced the first Pioneer prototype at the Masters Expo in Amsterdam.

The interest was overwhelming and that was the start of the Eysing Company.

The company was founded in 2017 in Vught (N-Brabant). After achieving a proof of concept, building several prototypes, and testing them for tens of thousands of kilometers, they started a pre-sale in their network.

Advanced technical development of the 100 pre-ordered e-mopeds began in 2019 and took about 18 months.

In 2019, a concept store was opened in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, N-Brabant, followed by the set up of an assembly facility in Geffen, N-Brabant in 2021.

Making of Eysin Pioneer

The assembly of the first production e-moped, the Eysing Pioneer, began in October 2020, with the first client deliveries made by the end of the year.

In 2021, an exclusive Tailor Made program was introduced, which allows customers to configure their own Pioneer Exclusive with the desired specifications. An independent production facility was also created and approved by the RDW, with the EU Type-Approval obtained from the RDW.

In 2022, the company moved to a bigger production facility in Vught, N-Brabant, where it all began in 2017. Additionally, they entered into several collaborations with international dealers and partnered with Pininfarina to design the Eysing PF40.

“Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Entrepreneurship means taking responsibility even in the face of adversity, no matter how painful it may be. Entrepreneurship is also about getting back up.I’ll be back,” says Stijn Smit co-founder of Eysing.
