Amsterdam-based Ecochain, a climate software firm enabling better decision-making for all stakeholders, has reportedly raised €3M in a fresh round of funding.
The round was led by Phase2.earth and supported by existing investor Volta Ventures. The round also includes a loan from ABN AMRO.
Boudewijn Poelmann, co-founder of Phase2.earth, told TechEU, “Ecochain has the potential to become the world-leading platform for LCA and environmental foot-printing. Ecochain helps companies to measure the environmental product impact and reduce it accordingly.”
“As the Dutch saying goes: meten is weten (to measure is to know) and we believe Ecochain has developed the best software for companies to quantify their footprint. Through this investment, we have taken a step forward to strengthen our portfolio in climate tech.”
Ecochain says the capital will help it to grow its team as it expands its technology and marketing departments.
What does Ecochain Technologies offer?
Ecochain says it has one mission – “Empowering companies to make an ongoing sustainable impact on our planet. We do that by making environmental footprints of product(s) and production processes accessible.”
Founded in 2011, Ecochain’s life cycle assessment (LCA) software offers data on the environmental implications of products to producers, addressing industries such as packaging, building, clothes, food and beverage, and consumer electronics.
LCAs used to be laborious and expensive. Ecochain claims to assist businesses in learning more about the environmental impact of their products via the use of its product footprint tools and auxiliary services.
Currently, there are two software options available from the company, both of which include sizable international databases.
The softwares are Ecochain Helix, a bulk solution to assess the effect of production facilities, and Ecochain Mobius, a product-focused footprint tool that measures and assists eco-design.
Frans-Willem de Kloet, CEO at Ecochain, says, “According to the UNEP, the extraction and processing of materials, fuels, and food make up about 50 per cent of total global greenhouse gas emissions and more than 90 per cent of biodiversity loss and water stress.”
“LCAs can be used to measure the impact on several levels and cover multiple impact areas beyond carbon, such as water and land use.”
“At Ecochain, our mission is to provide companies with the most accessible and actionable LCA software to empower them to make an ongoing sustainable impact,” he adds.
