Last update:

Elon Musk, often known for his unexpected announcement, is at it again! The new Twitter owner, on Monday, announced that he would rebrand the social media platform to X, the ‘everything app’ that he has been hinting about for quite some time.

It all started at 12 AM ET, when Musk tweeted saying, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

Later, Musk asked users to prepare an ‘X” logo to fastrack the rebranding process.

It means that the Twitter founder has already decided to replace the iconic blue bird logo with a new symbol that resembles the word “X.” He also said that a post on Twitter, usually called a tweet, will be renamed to an “X”.

Regarding the new logo’s design, Musk shared a GIF originally posted by Sawyer Merritt, a Twitter user who offered it, claiming it was previously used for his now-discontinued podcast.

CEO Linda Yaccarino also shared it, expressing enthusiasm with the words, “X is here! Let’s do this.”

Further, she also shared the thread on Twitter saying, “It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

However, Yaccarino tweeted, “There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.”

X: An everything app

The announcement comes a couple of months after Twitter revealed its merger with a multi-functional app called X as part of a lawsuit filed against Twitter by right-wing activist Laura Loomer in April.

After completing the Twitter takeover in October 2022, Elon Musk announced that this acquisition would accelerate the creation of an “everything app,” which would be named after the letter X.

He has described this app as a “super app” that could resemble China’s WeChat, the combination messaging/social networking/payment app with over a billion users. The functions of Twitter would play an essential role in this mega-size app.
