Paris-based European Startup Prize for Mobility (EUSP), an EU-founded Acceleration and Investment Programme for sustainable mobility startups, has announced the launch of the fifth edition of the programme. This edition will also be joined by EIT Urban Mobility.
The EUSP was created in 2017 by Karima Delli, Chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism, Boston Consulting Group and Via ID. It aims to support and develop smart and sustainable mobility startups in Europe.
The 5th edition of the programme was launched in the presence of Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate in Charge of Transport; Karima Delli; EIT Urban Mobility Impact Venture Director Fredrik Hanell; and EIB VP Lilyana Pavolva, among others, at the Ministry in Charge of Transport.
EIT Urban Mobility, as an initiative by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) – a body of the European Union, says it is proud to join this year’s edition as a full leading partner in the prize category “urban mobility”.
Every year, over 500 startups from all over Europe apply for the EUSP. This year’s applications will close on June 20. Apply here.
Karima Delli says, “At a time of climate emergency that has just been confirmed by the latest IPCC report, innovation must more than ever be a virtuous catalyst for more sustainable mobility.”
“The challenge for Europe is to preserve its leadership in innovation by supporting its fabric of startups. This is the whole role of the EUSP, founded five years ago, and which has established itself as an unmissable event in the news of the sustainable mobility ecosystem and which brings together a community every year, increasingly important and ever more committed institutions.”
Partners supporting the initiative
This fifth edition brings together 16 ‘exceptional’ partners. These include EIT Urban Mobility, RATP Group, Crédit Agricole Auto Bank, European Climate Foundation, Mobilians, Groupe ADP, Europcar, Volta Trucks, GRDF, European Clean Trucking Alliance, Voies Navigables de France, Europe’s rail, Die Autobahn, Roland Berger, and Shift4Good.
All participants can also apply for one of the 13 Special Prizes, including an Urban Mobility category sponsored by the partners in order to be recognised as the best in their field and benefit from the advantages provided by the partners.
Fredrik Hanell, Impact Ventures Director for EIT Urban Mobility, says, “EIT Urban Mobility has since it began operations in 2020 invested in 80 startups and supported more than 250 startups. Apart from impact, we emphasise on gender-balanced teams, and last year half of our invested startups had a woman leader.”
“With this prize, we expect to boost our exposure to new innovative startups in the rich European transport ecosystem leveraging next-generation urban mobility structures. The Urban Mobility Prize category will be given to the best startup that demonstrates positive social and environmental impact and significant potential to make our cities more liveable,” adds Hanell.
