Last update:

Mobility accounts for over a third of the global CO2 footprint each year, and roughly half is work-related.

This is a daunting task for employers, as they have to make a real impact on sustainability. Not only should they ‘greenify’ their car fleet, but they also need to encourage and facilitate broader sustainability of travel and work.

Fynch Mobility aims to accomplish precisely that. Today, the SaaS-enabled impact startup based in Utrecht, Netherlands, released that it raised €1 million in funding to, in its own words, ‘make sustainable business travel the new norm’.

The startup’s platform enables employers to measure and reduce CO2 emissions from business-related travel.

Fynch Mobility’s co-founder

Serge van den Berg, Co-Founder of Fynch Mobility, says, “More and more organisations are discovering that getting mobility right ensures cost efficiency, employer attractiveness and CO2 reduction.”

Fynch Mobility rewards employees for sustainably travelled mileage and offers an intelligent mobility app for administering and reimbursing trips and home working days.

The platform integrates seamlessly with various HR and ESG software tools, providing employers real-time insight into CO2 emissions from business-related mobility and ensuring compliance with sustainability legislation.

Fynch Mobility recently unveiled its reward program for commuters affected by construction on the A7 highway in North Holland, the Netherlands.

Strategic partnership

Furthermore, the Utrecht-based startup forged a strategic partnership with Alphabet Lease, a top-three European leasing company and a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW Group.

This partnership, which will see Alphabet make Fynch’s technology available to its customers under the name Alphabet Carbon Tracker, is a noteworthy step towards Fynch Mobility’s goal of motivating 10 million people to move towards sustainable and healthy mobility by 2030, as noted by Joris Smulders, the other co-founder of Fynch Mobility.

“In an increasingly complex world, mobility should be synonymous with freedom to travel from A to B carefree, flexible, and sustainable. We have named it ‘Alphabet Your Mobility, Made Easy’. The Carbon Tracker is an example of innovation, sustainability, and convenience coming together,” said Greo Belgers, CMIO BMW Financial Services.

Fynch Mobility was founded in 2020 to work on a mission to make a positive impact by providing organisations with real-time insight into the CO2 emissions related to their business mobility.

Business angels and European Commission

The company raised €1 million in growth capital, with €400k from the European Commission’s REACT-EU programme. The remaining amount was raised through a consortium of business angels, including Martijn Niessen, Lennard van Winden, Ivo Lissone, Ruben Nadimi, and Viktor van der Wijk.

The funds will be used to scale the company’s sustainable mobility software platform for B2B customers. Bas Scheele of Cardinalis Consulting assisted in the seed-funding round.

Fynch Mobility’s current clients include Rijkswaterstaat, BCD Travel, Censo Energy Services, Q-Park / P1, Volvo Group Netherlands, and BMW Netherlands.
