Rotterdam-based Greenchoice, a Dutch sustainable energy provider, has acquired a strategic stake in EnergyZero, a platform for dynamic energy contracts. Amsterdam’s The Sharing Group (TSG) will remain the majority shareholder.

The investment expands the partnership between the two companies and supports their joint approach to the energy market. It builds on their existing collaboration and reflects their shared focus on market flexibility and enabling customers to adjust energy use based on wholesale market tariffs.

Through this development, Greenchoice and EnergyZero aim to provide customers with services and products that support participation in the energy transition. With a dynamic energy contract, customers can align their energy use with tariffs that follow the wholesale market for the next day.

Aligning energy use with market supply

EnergyZero was founded in 2014 with the mission of changing energy consumption. The company provides a platform that gives business partners access to the energy market, allowing them to develop products and services, track customer energy use, and launch their own energy brands.

Insights from these partnerships support ongoing development of the platform, its software, and services.

The platform offers dynamic energy contracts that allow customers to align electricity use with periods of high wind or solar generation, helping balance electricity supply and demand.

Through its platform and partnerships, EnergyZero aims to support business goals, expand participation in the energy market, and enable clients and consumers to take an active role in energy consumption.

Coen de Ruiter, CEO of Greenchoice, says, “For customers who want to keep pace with the market, can handle fluctuating prices, and can effectively manage their consumption to cheaper times of day, a dynamic contract is a great product. Moreover, by managing your energy consumption wisely, you contribute to the energy transition.”

Strengthening the partnership with EnergyZero

Greenchoice is expanding its collaboration with EnergyZero through a strategic minority investment. The company already provides EnergyZero with electricity and natural gas and handles the purchasing and balancing of energy on the markets. This existing cooperation is a central reason for Greenchoice’s decision to take a stake and strengthen the partnership.

Hans Valk, CEO of EnergyZero, says, “EnergyZero believes that dynamic energy will become the standard. Together with Greenchoice, we are developing new services and products that make flexibility accessible and attractive to a growing number of households and businesses.”
