International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) to acquire StreamSets and webMethods, the Super iPaaS (integration platform-as-a-service) enterprise technology platforms from Software AG, a company majority-owned by Silver Lake.
The deal, expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024, is valued at €2.13B cash.
IBM mentions in a statement that, StreamSets and webMethods complement its portfolio companies including Watsonx, Red Hat, and IT automation products.

Aim of the acquisition
According to IBM, StreamSets and webMethods are leaders in application integration, API management, and data integration. StreamSets enhances data ingestion for Watson, IBM’s AI platform, while webMethods provides integration and API management tools for hybrid multi-cloud environments.
The move reflects the growing significance of these technologies in supporting application modernisation and the effective deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) across enterprises. With these acquisitions, IBM emphasises its commitment to AI and hybrid cloud.
StreamSets is a cloud-native DataOps and data ingestion platform that enables consistent access and delivery of data from various sources. It supports the design of smart data pipelines and real-time/batch data ingestion.
WebMethods is an integration and API management platform available on-premises and in the cloud. It offers B2B integration, managed file transfer, and a modern API gateway for managing, monitoring, and monetising APIs.
Software AG’s Super iPaaS platform, comprising StreamSets and webMethods, is profitable and has a recurring revenue profile. Together, they cater to over 1,500 clients globally.
