London-based Edge, a venture capital firm focused on investing in creative teams and emerging technologies, announced on Wednesday that it has invested £3M (approximately €3.4M) in Springpod, an innovative edtech platform.
Based in London, Springpod is an online student recruitment platform. It enables employers & education providers to target, inform and engage students as they plan their future.
To date, Springpod claims to have supported over 400,000 students, facilitating access to virtual tasters of university courses and online work experience.
This notable achievement has attracted prestigious clients, including a third of UK universities. In addition, it has attracted industry leaders such as Airbus, Siemens, Vodafone, Fujitsu, and the NHS.
Currently, the company works with clients including one-third of UK universities and employers, Airbus, Siemens, Vodafone, Fujitsu, the NHS, and many more.
Sam Hyams, Founder and CEO of Springpod, says, “We are delighted to partner with Edge and are excited to draw upon their extensive creative economy expertise. We pride ourselves on creating Netflix-quality content for young people to experience careers and courses with leading employers and universities.”
“Edge’s focus on driving social mobility for young people and backing innovative, creative start-ups aligns perfectly with Springpod. We are excited to scale our impact together from the 400,000 young people we have supported to date, to millions,” adds Hyams.
Edge: The investor
Edge invests in ‘exceptional’ creative teams and emerging technologies. The VC provides capital and a network of creative and tech experts to drive startups forward at every stage. This includes Seed to Growth to Scale-up.
Edge focuses on three creative areas – Media, Education, and Entertainment.
Hannah Williamson, Edge Investment Manager, says, “Edge is thrilled to partner with Springpod to power the next phase of its growth. We are excited about supporting the team to achieve their mission, enabling young people to experience a university course or career, before they apply. Due to a lack of advice, young people often choose the wrong career or course.”
“This has major implications for their future and high costs for universities & employers when students drop out. Springpod partners with universities and employers to create experiential learning programmes, empowering students by providing equal access to opportunity,” adds Williamson.
