Last update:

London-based Mews, a cloud-based property management system (PMS), announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Oslo-based Cenium, a hospitality technology company owned by Nordic Choice Hotels. The acquisition is expected to close by March, 2022.

This is the fourth PMS that Mews acquired in the last two years, with Hotel Perfect, Base7Booking, and Planet Winner already joining the Mews Hospitality Cloud.

Speaking on the development, Matthijs Welle, CEO of Mews, says, “The team at Cenium shares our passion for excellence in hospitality technology. Not only will they bring strong product expertise into our organisation, but they also have a deep understanding of the hospitality industry, including Nordic Choice. We will undoubtedly benefit from having their team join Mews, and we look forward to our collaboration.”

The complete hospitality software

Founded in 2003, Cenium claims to deliver a complete and flexible hospitality platform software in the world. The company offers its services to hospitality groups in Northern Europe and North America, including Nordic Choice hotels.

Having been in the industry for over 20 years, the company’s range of solutions covers Property Management Systems (PMS), Sales & Catering, Hospitality POS, Housekeeping, Activities, Ticketing and Rentals, covering all revenue streams at a complex property.

With APIs built on a modern platform, the hotel can drive a ‘seamless’ guest journey with effective front desk operations. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, with a subsidiary in Chicago, USA, and a partner in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Michael Ramm Østgaard, CEO of Cenium, says, “Mews has a vision for the future of hospitality like no other in our industry. The opportunity for us to bring our expertise and products into the Mews ecosystem is an exciting moment for us. For our existing customers, we’re incredibly positive about what they will now be able to achieve with the Mews Hospitality Cloud.”

How will Cenium’s acquisition help Mews?

With this acquisition, the Mews Hospitality Cloud aims to implement Mews’ technology across the full Nordic Choice Hotels portfolio of 200+ full-service hotels. This will help modernise and transform the experience for more than 15,000 Nordic Choice staff and millions of their guests.

The partnership will enable Nordic Choice to leverage the Mews Hospitality Cloud in their Comfort Hotels, Quality Hotel, Clarion Hotel, and Clarion Collection Hotel, plus any of the 40 stand-alone hotels in their portfolio across Scandinavia and the Baltics. Current Cenium customers can also migrate to Mews.

Richard Valtr, founder of Mews, says, “We’re delighted to welcome Cenium to the ever-growing Mews family. The company is established throughout the Scandinavian and Baltic regions and we’re excited to bring their expertise and product into the Mews portfolio.”

The acquisition includes Cenium products including Cenium 6, Cenium Core, and Cenium Commerce, as well as the Cenium team who have expertise in hospitality, and more specifically in the Nordic region. Additionally, Cenium capabilities will be merged with the existing Mews product portfolio to create a ‘powerful’ property management system.

Eirik Bogsnes, the Executive VP of Hotel Services at Nordic Choice Hotel Group, adds, “The partnership with Mews is part of a significant digitalisation initiative at Nordic Choice aimed at giving all our hotel staff a better workday, and ultimately our guests a better, more seamless, experience staying with us.”

The Nordic Choice Group has selected the full range of features in the Mews Hospitality Cloud including Mews Operations, Mews Guest Journey, Mews Payments, and Mews Open API.

Simplifying and automating operations for hoteliers and guests

Founded in 2012 by a team of former hoteliers Richard Valtr and Matthijs Welle, Mews aims to transform the hospitality industry with a cloud-based property management system. The Mews Hospitality Cloud acts as a central nervous system for properties of all sizes from small independents to large group brands.

Over 2,500 properties across 62 countries run their hotel operations, booking, payments, and guest management on Mews. Some of its customers include Accor, Autocamp, The Student Hotel, Generator-Freehand, Life House, and the Wythe Hotel.
