Amsterdam-based Mews, a provider of hospitality management cloud, announced on Tuesday that it has won the Top 250 Golden Scaler Award.

The event took place in Rotterdam and was supported by the City of Rotterdam. Robert Simons, Alderman of Port, Economy, Hospitality, and Governance inaugurated the event.

The announcement comes eight months after the company achieved unicorn status, having raised €101.39M in funding at a valuation of €1.1B.

According to the research conducted by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, Mews has been named the fastest-growing company in the Netherlands.

The research highlights were presented by high-growth specialist Prof. Dr. Justin Jansen of Rotterdam School of Management.

Mews: Fastest-growing company in the Netherlands

Founded in 2012 by Richard Valtr, Mews has developed its cloud platform — Mews Hospitality Cloud to streamline operations for modern hoteliers, transform the guest experience, and create more profitable businesses.

Over the past year, the Dutch company has achieved various milestones. It includes reaching a valuation of over $1B and expanding its customer base to serve over 5,500 clients in 85 countries, such as Strawberry, The Social Hub, and Airelles Collection.

The company claims to have increased its customer base in North America by 250 per cent in the last 12 months, surpassing 75,000 platform users worldwide in the hospitality industry, and achieving a 54 per cent growth in gross payment volume, totalling over $8B year-to-date.

During the annual Top 250 Awards Ceremony, CEO Matthijs Welle received the Golden Scaler Award from the previous year’s winner, Sonja Meijerink of Valcon.

Prior winners include media.monks, Picnic, CoolBlue, JustEat Takeaway and Rituals.

Matthijs Welle, CEO of Mews, comments, “It’s an honour to be named the fastest-growing company in the Netherlands. One in three bedrooms in Dutch hotels is managed with Mews, and we are proud to be recognised here. But we have a huge ambition to be a global leader, and now serve hospitality brands in 85 countries.”

“We set out to disrupt the legacy technologies that exist in our industry, and we are well-positioned to continue defining the future of hospitality. This award recognises the hard work of our entire team who are dedicated to the growth of Mews and our customers,” he adds.

The Top 250: What you need to know?

Top 250 is an annual research by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, initiated in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Justin Jansen.

The publication of the Insights Report is followed by the exclusive Awards Ceremony, which gathers CEOs and C-level leaders of the 250 fastest–growing companies in the Netherlands.

The numbers in the report are based on a quantitative model designed to analyse this group, including the number of FTEs, age, location, founders, and efforts in sustainability and SDGs.

The Top 250 research was carried out using data from companies enrolled in the research via a survey by Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, and data from Dealroom and Orbis.

To be included in the Top 250, companies must be headquartered in the Netherlands and meet the OECD (2016) high-growth firm criteria.

Growth is measured using FTE data, and the nominees for Golden Scaler, Young Scaler, Impact Scaler, and Woman-led Scaler awards are selected by weighing both relative and absolute growth.
