On Wednesday, Maastricht, The Netherlands-based Mosa Meat, a company specialised in cultured beef, announced that it has launched a crowdfunding campaign that surpassed its €1.5M goal in just 24 minutes.
The campaign was overfunded just one day later, exceeding 150 per cent of its target and attracting over 800 new investors.
“In the past years, thousands of people have asked how they can invest in Mosa Meat. This crowdfunding campaign is making it possible for early fans to really become part of the Mosa Meat journey,” say Maarten Bosch, CEO of Mosa Meat.
The campaign will remain open for investment until February 25, unless the maximum funding limit is reached before then.
“We are very excited that after receiving support from institutional investors, governments, meat producers, and regulators, we can now also offer more consumers to join us on our mission,” adds Bosch.
Fund utilsation
The Dutch company will raise funds to speed up final research and development before restaurant sales start.
The money will also help market Mosa Meat’s first product and produce the first burgers for sale.
The announcement comes around a year after raising €40M in an oversubscribed funding round led by Lowercarbon Capital and M Ventures, in 2024.
While the company remains well-funded for its next phase of growth, Mosa Meat wants to open an opportunity for individual supporters to share in its journey.
Earlier this year, the Dutch company also filed its first application for market approval under the European Union’s Novel Foods Regulation.
“The sheer volume of investment requests we received after news broke that we submitted our regulatory dossier in the European Union was astounding. So, this campaign is about inclusivity; allowing those who support us to help shape the future of food alongside us,” says Bosch.
