Dutch company Nuwa Pen, based in Groningen, has raised €1.5M in a fresh round of funding, with the investment coming from a US consumer goods company. This brings Nuwa Pen’s total seed funding for the previous year to €2.5M.
The funds will support the final development phase of the Nuwa Pen, touted as the world’s most advanced pen that digitises handwritten notes.
The pen is expected to launch in March 2024, and the backing from the publicly traded US company will strengthen Nuwa Pen’s position as it moves towards production.
A pen that sees what you write
Founded in 2020 by Marc Tuinier, Nuwa Pen is designed for individuals who prefer the traditional pen-and-notebook approach despite the rise of digital pens.
The pen emphasises the emotional connection users have with manual note-taking and aims to blend this with technical innovation.
Featuring an integrated camera system and advanced algorithms, the Nuwa Pen precisely captures handwritten strokes on paper, storing them digitally for organisation through the Nuwa Pen app.
Users can save, share, and access millions of notes while enjoying the augmented notes feature, which functions as a personalised scheduling assistant.
“Other smart pens require you to write on special paper or a unique surface. With Nuwa Pen, you can write on any piece of paper and we’ll digitise it,” says the company
Founder Tuinier says “It’s clear there is a lot of buzz around Nuwa Pen, so we can’t wait for it to go to market. I’m immensely grateful to our investors.”
“Right from the start, they have bought into our vision, and moved very quickly to ensure we have the funding in place to take the Nuwa Pen through the production process and into people’s hands.”
The recent investment in Nuwa Pen opens doors for future innovation. Tuinier and his team are exploring projects in spatial computing, with new product announcements expected soon.
