Last update:

Amsterdam-based Nxus, an edtech startup that offers solutions for knowledge institutions in the field of (alumni) community and internship (job) matching, announced that it has raised €150K in funding from Rabobank Innovation Loan (RIL).

Ruben van Brunschot, Rabobank Account Manager SME, says, “As Rabobank, we see Nxus as a perfect collaboration. Both commercially and in terms of social impact, Nxus builds a great bridge between education and the world of employment.”

A Uni community and bias-free career platform

Nxus was founded in 2018 by Niels Baay, an alumnus of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Baay first got the concept for Nxus when he saw that despite having better marks and being more determined, his Indian buddy and fellow student had to apply 8 times more frequently to land an internship interview than his friends who were Dutch natives.

The concept of providing a fair playing field by turning education into skills was born.

Nxus is a career and community platform that facilitates recruiting graduates and students from the talent pool of affiliated educational institutions.

The platform enables students to create a skills portfolio, which contains a summary of the information and abilities they have acquired throughout their studies. This is done by converting the learning outcomes of study programmes into practical skills.

Then, Nxus matches students to internships and graduate positions based only on their talents and without bias.

By keeping the selection process anonymous until the student is asked for an interview by the company, the platform eliminates (unconscious)biases. Thus, Nxus offers all students an equal chance when they initially enter the job market.

Earlier, Nxus received a grant of €25K from the NWO (Dutch Research Council) and, to date, is a bootstrapped edtech startup with a team of seven.

Capital utilisation

Baay says, “We are very excited to have Rabobank invest in our mission to provide equal opportunities in the hiring of young professionals and to change the way we prepare today’s students for the skill-focused job market of tomorrow.”

“This investment allows us to scale our solutions across the Dutch education sector, especially at MBO and HBO level, where internship discrimination is a much-addressed issue demanding a solution.”

The Radboud University in Nijmegen hosted the platform’s initial Live event in September 2021. Since then, more than 6,000 students and graduates have registered, and more than 700 businesses, including corporates and local startups and SMEs, have joined.
