Last update:

Amsterdam-based OMRT, a company creating technologies with an aim to revolutionise the design process of buildings, announced on Thursday that it has raised €5M in its Series A round of funding.

The company aims to reduce a building’s environmental impact and speed up financial returns by cutting the design process from 16 to just 2 months.

OMRT was one of the 9 European AI and HPC startups selected for EscherCloud and NVIDIA’s Hyperion Lab. It has also been selected to exhibit at World Summit AI with the City of Amsterdam.

Investors in this round

The investment was led by SHIFT Invest, with the participation of current shareholder VORM.

SHIFT Invest is a Dutch impact VC fund that invests in innovations to bring back the balance between nature and society by fighting climate change, loss of biodiversity and depletion of resources of the planet.

Rotterdam-based VORM has been in existence for more than a century and focuses on the whole spectrum of the construction industry, including urban development, property development and construction, transformation, sustainability, refurbishment, and property maintenance. The company aims to make livable communities and affordable housing available to everybody.

Capital utilisation

OMRT says the fresh funds will help the company grow its workforce, improve its platform, and focus more on advancing its technologies. The funds will also help spread the reach of the company’s technology and continue working toward a long-term solution to the housing issue.

OMRT founder Andreja Andrejevic, says, “This investment proves a certain maturity of our technology and gives us the confidence to continue pursuing our vision. We have to keep pushing our boundaries as a company in order to make the most impact as we are facing the immense challenge of implementing our platform at the core of every building design.”

A deeptech design platform for real estate development

Andreja Andrejevic and Jasper Spiegeler, who are both listed in the Forbes 30 under 30, created OMRT in 2018 with an aim of restoring balance to our habitats through technology that can predict how we should construct and shape the planet. This vision is driven by the need for society to tackle the housing crisis in a sustainable manner.

With more than 30,000 houses created so far, OMRT claims that it has already had a considerable influence on the market. However, the sector still has significant difficulty in addressing the housing demand in a sustainable way. OMRT works together with leading project developers such as VORM to revolutionise the design process and improve the sector.

The Amsterdam-based company enables its customers to make critical design decisions of building projects early on and taking sustainability aspects into account from the start. OMRT’s Design Scout platform can generate more than a thousand potential designs in one go.

The company says, “The Design Scout empowers design teams to make better-informed decisions, understand each other better, and streamline the design process. Complex factors such as wind, sustainability and financial performances can be reviewed in relation to each other in a matter of seconds. As a result, the Design Scout makes the design and development process more objective and more transparent for everyone at the table, improving our world decision by decision.”
