Last update:

Hilversum-based Polestar Capital, a Dutch asset manager and impact investor, has launched the €500M Polestar Capital e-Mobility & Infrastructure Fund (PCEIF) to support the transition to zero-emission mobility.

The fund will provide loans to e-mobility and logistics projects that struggle to secure financing elsewhere. With this addition, Polestar Capital’s total committed capital approaches €1B.

Expanding in the mobility sector

Polestar Capital, a fund and asset manager with 15 years of experience in impact-driven investments, expands into mobility financing. Initially focused on renewable energy projects, the firm recently obtained an AIFM MiFID Top Up license.

According to Polestar Capital, the mobility sector is the second-largest CO2 emitter, making zero-emission logistics crucial for climate goals and business sustainability. However, transitioning requires over €120B in Europe by 2030 for infrastructure and electric vehicles, while securing financing remains challenging.

Banks are reluctant to offer long-term capital, and venture capital is often unsuitable. PCEIF aims to change this. The fund helps bridge this gap by providing structured debt financing to growing or transitioning companies in North West Europe, supporting their scale-up efforts.

Jan-Willem König, CEO of Polestar Capital, says, “The shift to zero-emission logistics is one of the biggest opportunities to accelerate decarbonisation. We see a growing demand for financial solutions that help companies transition without compromising their business models.”

“Through our various funds, we have already issued a record €490M in impact loans in 2024 alone. With PCEIF, we are now expanding our impact to the zero-emission mobility sector, ensuring that businesses have the financial support needed to accelerate their transition.”

PCEIF’s vision

PCEIF is a fund designed to support sustainable investments in the mobility sector by providing loans to companies that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.

It is classified as an SFDR Article 9 fund, meaning it focuses on investments with clear environmental benefits.

The fund finances three main areas:

  • Charge point operators: Companies that set up and manage public charging stations for electric cars, vans, and trucks.
  • Depot charging: Charging infrastructure at logistics hubs and industrial areas to support fleet operators.
  • EV fleet operators: Companies in logistics and leasing that are transitioning their vehicles from fossil fuels to electric power.

PCEIF aims to accelerate the shift to cleaner transportation by funding these areas. The fund has also developed a pipeline of potential investments and is engaging with institutional investors focused on environmental impact.
