PostNL CEO Herna Verhagen steps down; current CFO Pim Berendsen to take the helm

The Hague-based PostNL, a postal and package service, announced on Monday, that Herna Verhagen has decided to step down from her position as CEO following the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on April 15, 2025.

Herna Verhagen, CEO of PostNL, says, “Since 2012, I have been CEO of PostNL, a fantastic company in the middle of society, where we work with tens of thousands of colleagues every day for millions of customers. That was and is an honour. I am grateful for the many opportunities and trust I have been given. My decision to step down was a well-considered one with full confidence in a good succession.” I am proud that the SB chose Pim as my successor – from PostNL’s ranks – and thus chose continuity of the chosen strategy.”

Consequently, she will hand over her responsibilities to Pim Berendsen, the current Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Also, the company’s Employee Council has given its positive advice on the appointment of Pim as CEO.

The board change will take effect after the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on 15 April 2025.

In the coming period, Herna and Pim will continue their work as CEO and CFO together, allowing extra time for a proper handover.

Looking for the next female CFO

The Supervisory Board is working on appointing a new female CFO to join the Executive Board.

They aim to announce the nomination soon so that Pim can welcome the new CFO before April next year.

Under her leadership, PostNL has developed into a committed and responsible employer for tens of thousands of employees, including delivery staff, transport drivers, and sorters. We regret Herna’s decision and are at the same time very pleased to have Pim as her successor. Pim has broad and deep knowledge of the international market, extensive experience with various stakeholders, and proven sharpness and substance in strategy, logistics, and commerce.”

PostNL: The Netherland’s largest postal and package services

PostNL is the Netherlands’ largest company, providing postal and package services. 

The company has an extensive network of almost 5,800 PostNL points, 11,000 letterboxes, and over 900 parcel and letter machines open to various carriers, and millions of users of the PostNL app.

The postal service delivers an average of 1.1M parcels and 6.9M letters across the Benelux region on weekdays. 

Besides delivering mail and parcels, the company also provides logistics solutions for e-commerce and cross-border solutions.
