Munich-based Project Q (Q), a European defence tech startup, has secured €7.5M in a Seed round of funding. The investment was led by Project A, with participation from Expeditions Fund and Superangel.
Q develops interoperable, real-time intelligence systems that address capability gaps in situational awareness, decision-making, and operational performance within defence operations.

Uwe Horstmann, General Partner at Project A, says, “Since the war in Ukraine, Western militaries have significantly ramped up their adoption of unmanned systems, from UAVs to UGVs and beyond. But more hardware means more data, more sensors, and more fragmentation.”
“What Leonard and his team at Q are building is a game changer: a unified platform that fuses data across domains, integrates seamlessly with legacy infrastructure, and enables modern defence technologies to actually operate as a coherent system. It’s the kind of deep tech that turns complexity into capability.”
Capital utilisation
The German startup will use the funds to develop the Q-Open Source Platform (Q-OSP), expand its team, and start scaling projects with European armed forces and security agencies.
Leonard Wessendorff, CEO & co-founder of Project Q, says, “We’re excited to be partnering with such renowned and like-minded investors who support our mission to strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty in the security and defence sector through scalable and interoperable solutions.”
“Modern defence requires faster innovation cycles, and the transformation of siloed systems into an integrated network that can be leveraged on a European scale.”
Software solutions to strengthen defence and security capabilities
Founded by Frank Christian Sprengel and Leonard Wessendorff, Q is a defence tech company that builds modular sensor and intelligence systems for defence and security use. Its focus is on connecting existing and new technologies through an open software architecture.
The company’s systems gather and process data from various sources, including commercial technologies, to support situational awareness and operational decision-making.
At the centre of its offering is the Q-Open Source Platform (Q-OSP), which acts as the integration layer. Q-OSP links different sensors, systems, and third-party data using AI tools. This allows users to access real-time information across domains.
The platform supports compatibility with existing systems and commercial technologies, reducing barriers to adoption and speeding up deployment.
Q follows an Internet of Defence (IoD) model. This approach adapts commercial innovations for defence purposes and supports civil-military collaboration. By doing so, the company aims to address capability gaps in data integration, system interoperability, and decision-making speed.
Since its inception in 2024, Q has worked with public sector stakeholders and developed its products through continuous feedback and system-level integration. Its solutions are intended to improve mission execution through data-driven coordination, using existing resources and reducing procurement hurdles.
