Last update:

Bayern-based Quantum-Systems, a company that develops, manufactures and sells unmanned aerial systems (UAS), announced on Thursday that it has delivered the first VECTOR systems to the Dutch Ministry of Defense (MoD), together with BSS Holland.

The MoD selected VECTOR as a preferred solution because of its adaptability, data protection, and security capabilities, which are provided by the AES-Encrypted mesh IP data connection, geared for tactical applications and offers unprecedented performance in the most difficult conditions.

VECTOR is the ideal UAS for a wide range of non-invasive aerial activities, thanks to real-time onboard data processing and the capabilities of QBase Tactical Mission Control software, which can dynamically adapt the mission in flight.

As agreed by all parties involved, no more information on the number and schedule of the delivery will be provided.

What does VECTOR offer?

VECTOR streams live data in real-time using a Mesh IP encrypted data link with a range of 15+ kilometres. The data evaluation process of VECTOR, which is supported by automatic detection, identification, and tracking algorithms, is equipped with advanced AI capabilities that provide tactical units on the ground significant efficiency and safety advantages.

It is appropriate for multiple applications, including increased situational awareness (ISR), area mapping, Search & Rescue (SAR), and convoy and VIP protection, and has a single flying time of 120 minutes. Also, dual Electro-Optical (EO) and Infra-Red (IR) gimbal sensors are included in the VECTOR, enabling missions both during the day and at night.

Developing advanced eVTOL UAVs

Founded in 2015 by Florian Seibel and Armin Busse, Quantum-Systems specialises in the development, design, and production of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). The company’s electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) sUAS are designed to optimise range and adaptability while offering operators an easy-to-use interface.

For clients in the European defence, security, public safety, commercial, and geospatial industries, Quantum-Systems is developing next-generation UAS by combining “cutting-edge” software capabilities like edge computing and real-time AI-powered data processing.

With Quantum-Systems’ UAS, clients can carry out search and rescue operations after natural disasters, automate railway inspections after bad weather, and gather aerial data intelligence on large-scale construction projects.

The company says, “Our sUAS fly as efficiently as a fixed-wing aeroplane but allow for the easy vertical take-off and landing like a multi-rotor drone. No runway and no extra equipment are needed for take-off or landing. They land smoothly, controlled on their shock-absorbing landing gear. This means reduced harm to the sUAS and sensors for extended product life.”

Brief about BSS Holland

BSS Holland, founded in 2008, focuses on offering C5ISR and robotics solutions for difficult security and military task gaps. In order to aid experts in the defence and homeland security companies, the relationship with Quantum-Systems is focused on enhancing future readiness for the Tactical Edge.

The VECTOR & SCORPION 2-in-1 ISR system from Quantum-Systems has been a part of the BSS Holland product line since 2021.

BSS Holland assists the Dutch MoD by pre-identifying systems appropriate for the MoD’s usage and then delivering, training, and maintaining their library of Light-Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. The lengthy and exhaustive acquisition time procedures are significantly shortened by the presence of the drone catalogue.

Drones are primarily used by the Dutch Ministry of Defense for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
