Gilching-headquartered drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has announced a long-term investment plan of up to €50M in the United Kingdom over the next five years.
Quantum Systems develops AI-powered unmanned systems, including electric vertical take-off and landing platforms integrated with proprietary software, edge computing, real-time data processing, and drone port solutions. These systems are designed to support operator decision-making.
Founded in 2015, the company maintains operations in the United States, Australia, Ukraine, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
The latest development follows the company’s full acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK and the creation of Quantum-Systems Ltd. UK. Earlier in May 2025, Quantum Systems secured €160M in funding led by Balderton Capital.
Expanding operations in the UK
Quantum Systems’ latest expansion plan supports the UK Ministry of Defence’s 20-40-40 strategy, which envisions a force mix of 20 per cent crewed platforms, 40 per cent reusable platforms such as drones, and 40 per cent consumable systems including rockets, missiles, and one-way effectors.
With a portfolio of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance drones ranging from short- to long-range, Quantum Systems plans to align its UK operations with these requirements.
Quantum Systems has outlined plans to broaden its activities in the United Kingdom through new infrastructure, local engineering, and collaborations with domestic providers. The company intends to establish Service, Support, Training, and Logistics Centre (SSTLC) capabilities as needed, drawing on its localisation approach used in Ukraine.
The investment will cover maintenance and repair functions, as well as the development of training and testing facilities, contributing to job creation and sovereign capability.
In addition, Quantum Systems will formalise a Memorandum of Understanding with Skyports at DSEI UK 2025, strengthening its role in the UK market.
The company is showcasing Reliant, its new long-range ISR system, at DSEI UK 2025 (ExCeL London). The platform completes its short-, medium-, and long-range drone portfolio and is operated via the MOSAIC UXS software launched earlier this year.
Appointment of a UK Managing Director
Quantum Systems has also announced the appointment of Vito Tomasi as Managing Director of Quantum Systems Ltd. UK.
Tomasi served in the Royal Marines with deployments including Afghanistan before transitioning to roles in finance at Goldman Sachs and in investment at Speedinvest. He will oversee the company’s growth in the United Kingdom.
Tomasi says, “Quantum Systems is here to stay and deepen our investment in the UK. By investing in British talent, infrastructure, and partnerships, and by delivering our proven, battlefield-ready aerial intelligence systems, we will contribute to the UK’s defence priorities and even exceed expectations.”
Martin Karkour, Chief Revenue Officer of Quantum Systems, adds, “Our mission is clear. The UK is investing in autonomy, resilience, and next-generation unmanned intelligence. With our UK hub, our acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK, and the leadership of Vito Tomasi, Quantum Systems is committed to being the trusted partner delivering these capabilities for Britain’s defence and security.”
Brief about the Quantum Systems
Quantum Systems builds drones that can take off and land vertically. These drones collect information from the air using multiple sensors. The data is processed with software, artificial intelligence, and edge computing so that organisations can make decisions during missions or operations.
The company provides drones to both government and commercial customers for defence, security, humanitarian, and mapping purposes.
Quantum Systems is developing drone-port systems that can automatically launch and recover drones. In the future, it plans to offer networks of drone-ports that allow customers to access data directly, without owning the drones themselves.
Its overall mission is to change how decisions are made by providing aerial data intelligence and building a complete platform that combines hardware and software.
Quantum Systems was founded by Florian Seibel, Dr. Michael Kriegel, Tobias Kloss, and Armin Busse. The core team began forming in 2011, when Seibel and Kriegel met during their PhD studies at the Chair of Flight Systems Dynamics at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich. Kloss and Busse joined soon after. Currently, three of the four founders continue to hold active positions in the company.
