Robert Vis, Founder & CEO of Bird, on Tuesday announced his departure from the Netherlands in search of a more supportive environment for entrepreneurship and innovation.
Vis cited challenges in the Dutch business landscape and expressed a desire to explore global opportunities.
“My city of Amsterdam, where I was born and where I am living now. Our country is known worldwide for innovation and entrepreneurship, but in my opinion, the truth is different,” says Vis in a LinkedIn post.
“The truth is that tall trees catch “too” much wind, entrepreneurship is not rewarded, and shooting a lot or trying to change things inspires an aversion. And I’m done with it,” he adds,
“Entrepreneurs often face suspicion”
According to Vis, entrepreneurs often face suspicion and lack of support, rather than being celebrated, inhibiting the growth of innovative ventures.
In addition, Vis also pointed out the impact of politics, bureaucratic hurdles, and a high tax burden on the business ecosystem.
“I myself have zero problems paying a lot of taxes, but I just can’t reward my employees in a way that is beneficial,” he expresses.
Bird’s CEO & founder also expressed his desire to explore new horizons and embrace fresh challenges in a more supportive environment for entrepreneurship and innovation.
“For example, countries such as Switzerland, the United States, and Singapore offer a much more favorable environment for entrepreneurs with a progressive vision,” he mentions.
He also expressed his admiration towards Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau for his contributions to the Dutch tech industry.
“Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau, I can’t help but admire what you’re doing for our country and certainly in our tech industry. Being progressive, having an impact as an entrepreneur from your position is something we are very proud of,” he says.
