Samsung Galaxy S20 series brings incredible upgrades and costs slightly higher than Apple iPhone 11 lineup

Samsung has launched its Galaxy S20 series of smartphones and as expected, the tech world is again in for a treat. The South Korean smartphone manufacturer keeps pushing the envelope when it comes to the latest innovation and it has tried to do the same with its new handsets. The Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup consists of the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20+ and the top of the line Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. 

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series of phones have been built in such a way that they offer something for everyone. However, it all comes down to the device’s pricing and whether it can stand against its primary competitor, Apple iPhone or not. Here’s a deep dive into specifications of the Galaxy S20 lineup and how they stack up against the competition in terms of pricing. 

Samsung Galaxy S20 price and availability details

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series will go up for pre-orders in the Netherlands from February 11. 

  • Samsung Galaxy S20 128GB LTE version costs €899, while the 5G model is for €999. 
  • Samsung Galaxy S20+ 128GB 5G version is priced at €1099.
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 128GB 5G is for €1349 and 512GB 5G costs €1549

In comparison with the latest generation of Apple iPhones, the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup is priced a bit higher. 

  • iPhone 11 starts at €799.
  • iPhone 11 Pro is priced starting from €1149.
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at  €1249.

Samsung Galaxy S20 specifications

Starting with the smallest handset of the lot, the Samsung Galaxy S20 sports a 6.2-inch Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. The display gets a QHD 1440x3200p resolution that has a 563ppi pixel count and it’s HDR10 certified as well, with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a 7nm octa-core processor and depending upon the region where you buy it from, it could either be running on the Samsung Exynos 990 SoC or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. 

Coming to the camera, the S20 has three shooters on the back, which includes a 12MP wide-angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS and Super Speed Dual Pixel AF. There’s also a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture, along with a 64MP telephoto camera with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and OIS. There are some new camera features as well. These include a Super Resolution Zoom up to 30x, 3x hybrid optical zoom, and a new shooting mode called ‘Single Take.’

This new mode captures a short video, along with a photo, simultaneously from all the sensors, for unique perspectives. On the front, a 10MP selfie camera is paired with an f/2.2 aperture. The 4G version of the Galaxy S20 is equipped with 8GB RAM while its 5G version features 12GB RAM. Both models feature 128GB of internal storage. There’s also an Ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and face recognition for biometric authentication. 

The Galaxy S20 is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance and it is backed by a 4000mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. The fast charger is included in the box and the handset also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and reverse wireless charging. Running on One UI 2.1 that is based on Android 10, the S20 is equipped with dual-band Bluetooth 5, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound. It also comes in single or dual SIM (hybrid) variants, depending on the region.

Samsung Galaxy S20+ specifications

The Galaxy S20+ shares almost all specifications with the Galaxy S20, but it differs in overall size, and battery capacity. There’s also an additional depth sensor for the rear camera. The Galaxy S20+ sports a 6.7-inch QHD Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1440x3200p resolution and an Infinity-O hole-punch design. It is backed by a 4500mAh battery. 

The handset’s LTE version features 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, while the 5G model sports 12GB RAM with options of selecting from 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage. As mentioned, the front and rear camera details remain the same as the Galaxy S20, except for the addition of a rear depth camera.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra specifications

The biggest phone in the series, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, sports a 6.9-inch QHD Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. The biggest upgrade with the S20 Ultra is its camera setup, which consists of a 108MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS, PDAF. Additionally, there’s a 48MP telephoto camera with an f/3.5 aperture, PDAF, OIS, apart from the wide-angle and depth cameras.

With the help of a new periscope-style telephoto lens, the device can achieve 10x hybrid optical zoom and maximum ‘Super Resolution Zoom’ of up to 100x. On the front is a 40MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. As for memory and storage, the Galaxy S20 Ultra comes in either 12GB or 16GB RAM variants with storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB for both the LTE and 5G variants. The battery is also a bit larger at 5000mAh and it supports 45W fast charging through an optional adapter.
