Stuttgart-based Sereact, a provider of AI-powered robotics solutions for autonomous warehouses, announced on Tuesday, August 8, that it has secured $5M (approximately €4.55M) in a Seed round of funding.
Sereact says it will use the funds to expand its workforce and support the development and international roll-out of PickGPT.
PickGPT is a potential innovation in the field of robotics aimed at enabling robots to comprehend natural language and understand their surroundings with exceptional intelligence and accuracy.
Investors in this round
The round was led by Point Nine and Air Street Capital.
Nathan Benaich, Founding Partner at Air Street Capital, says, “As businesses embrace automation, they’ll need accessible technology that’s capable of handling challenging and unpredictable real-world environments.”
“The team at Sereact combines a deep understanding of the warehouse operating context with real technical ingenuity. As the first business to turn the combination of LLMs and pick-and-pack from an academic possibility to real-world impact, they’re building a product that’s still only scratching the surface of its potential use cases.”
The round also saw participation from existing and new angels. These include Alexander Diehl, Oliver Cameron (VP Product of Cruise, co-founder of Voyage), the Founders of Proglove and OMA Ventures, Achim Baier and Wolfgang Frank (Arconsis), Martin Giese, Michael Achtelik, Jan Stumpf and Daniel Gurdan (founders of Ascending Technologies), and Mostafa Elsayed (CEO and co-founder of Automata).
AI-powered robotics for autonomous warehouses
Founded in 2021, Sereact is developing AI-driven software that achieves complete automation of the pick-and-pack procedure in warehouses and manufacturing environments.
This process, responsible for around 55 per cent of warehouse operational expenses, has become a pivotal area of focus due to the combined challenges of increasing labour expenses and demand fueled by the e-commerce sector.
According to Sereact, traditional automation systems have been inflexible, requiring lengthy training and extensive human oversight. Sereact’s solution, deployable in a day, promises up to 77 per cent cost savings per pick and is adaptable to changing product ranges.
The company’s new product, PickGPT, merges Sereact’s proprietary work in computer vision with large language models, similar to the technology that powers ChatGPT.
PickGPT represents a groundbreaking advancement in robotics technology, being the inaugural commercially accessible robotics transformer. This innovation empowers robots to comprehend natural language and interpret their surroundings with an “unprecedented” level of intelligence and precision.
The company claims to have achieved significant technological feats, including “industry-leading” picking speeds of 1500 picks per hour, collision-free picking utilising any gripper, and complete independent object manipulation.
Currently, Sereact is a trusted partner for various sectors including e-commerce, manufacturing, and third-party logistics. They cater to industry leaders like ZenFulfillment, Daimler Truck, Material Bank, and Schmalz.
