With the pandemic, self-isolation and everything else going around us, it can be difficult to prioritise self-care. However, it is more imperative that we take steps to ensure our wellbeing, be it physical, mental or sexual. While there are a plethora of apps and services to help you get on track with your mental and physical well-being, there are few and far options in terms of sexual wellness. The Barcelona-based startup Emjoy understands this quite well and offers an app aimed at women, which intends to help improve sexual wellness. The company has now raised €2.5M seed funding to accelerate its app development.
Funds to develop Emjoy further
With the latest €2.5M seed funding, the company plans to further develop its app offering and expand its current team of 11 members. It will also be used to further develop the app’s content and increase collaboration with leading academics, experts and influencers within the sexual wellbeing and education space. The current funding round was led by JME Ventures while the company’s existing investor, Nauta Capital, participated as well.
Andrea Oliver, CEO and Co-Founder of Emjoy, says, “This funding will play a vital role in helping to establish Emjoy as an everyday wellness tool in the same way that we now view mental health, fitness and meditation apps – which were once also considered as emerging categories. We also look forward to collaborating further with leading experts in the space, to ensure our users receive much-needed content, spanning all facets of sexual wellbeing and education; body positivity, understanding sexual trauma, and discovering oneself.“
Over 150,000 active users globally
Emjoy was founded back in January 2019 by Andrea Oliver Garcia, CEO, and Daniel Tamas, CTO. The company soon raised €1M investment from the VC firm, Nauta Capital, and continued to launch its app in early 2020. The company claims it registered 80,000 registered users in the first six months of launching the app and has observed tripled payment for its app subscription, since lockdown commenced in mid-March.
The apps’ library is said to be updated weekly and contains over 150+ audio sessions and sensual stories, developed by an in-house sex therapist, Mia Sabat, and sexual wellbeing experts. This is so that all of Emjoy’s content is not only science-based but also inclusive, and that it delivers a holistic solution to reduce pleasure inequality and help its users get in the mood.
