Bas Beekman, the program director of StartupAmsterdam, on Friday, announced his transition to a new role as part of the brand new management team of Economic Affairs and Culture (EZC) at the Municipality of Amsterdam, effective June 1st.
In his new role, he will assume ultimate responsibility for ‘Staff and Internationalisation’, overseeing Amsterdam inbusiness, IN Amsterdam, Amsterdam Trade & Innovate, and the staff department.
“For the past (nearly) 10 years, I have had the incredible pleasure of leading StartupAmsterdam – working with many talented and wonderful people. With countless private and public partners in the city and region, we have set up or supported dozens of programs, projects, pilots, meetups, and events,” he says.

As the Program Director at StartupAmsterdam since July 2014, Bas Beekman has led a team of 12-15 people in transforming Amsterdam into a global tech hub.
Under his leadership, this public-private partnership has launched over 50 innovative projects.
Notable projects under his direction include the Equals Female Hub, MKB Digitaliseringsoffensief, TOMAS Talent Matching Platform, Coding4Amsterdam, Startup AI Lab, and Amsterdam Capital House.
Further, Beekman expressed confidence in the continuation of StartupAmsterdam under the leadership of Egon Van Wees and Joël Dori, who will continue with the mission of ‘strengthening the innovative ecosystems’ in Amsterdam.
“I am excited to bring all the knowledge and contacts I have gained over the last few years to my new position! I am very much looking forward to shaping the management of EZC with Ilknur Dönmez, Ellen Veul, Jalal Loutfi, and Araf Ahmadali – and of course, I am also looking forward to collaborating with Youri Goudswaard and Sietske van Tuin,” he concludes.
