Stockholm-based STILFOLD, a tech company aiming to reshape the future of industrial manufacturing and mobility, has launched MetaFold Academy, a new programme focused on improving eco-friendly manufacturing in the automotive industry.
With almost SEK 5M (€427K) in funding from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Manufacturing, MetaFold Academy aims to transform industrial education in Sweden, Greece, Italy, and Hungary.
The initiative received additional support from a consortium of educational and research institutions, such as TF CC in Greece, MADE Competence Center I4.0 in Italy, and PBN in Hungary. Each institution contributes “unique expertise” and facilities to the project.
MetaFold Academy: Everything you need to know
MetaFold Academy claims to tackle the pressing need for industries to adopt sustainability. It offers training in eco-innovation, energy efficiency, and resource management through a modern modular programme.
Jonas Nyvang, co-founder of Stilfold, says, “The launch of MetaFold Academy marks a significant milestone in our commitment to fostering sustainable industrial practices.”
“Through this initiative, we aim to empower professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to drive the Green Industrial Transformation.”
The programme targets 250 engineers and designers from the automotive, aerospace, and energy sectors, empowering them with skills to integrate green technologies into their work.
Volvo Group, a manufacturer of trucks and construction equipment, has joined as a pilot customer, highlighting the need for sustainable technologies in manufacturing. This collaboration allows participants to apply their learning in real-world settings, promoting innovative practices.
MetaFold Academy will run via four training centers, one in each participating country, acting as innovation hubs. The centers will provide a blend of online and hands-on training, featuring advanced teaching methods like Micro-learning, Extended Reality, and Challenge-based learning.
Tue Beijer, co-founder of Stilfold, adds, “By aligning with the European Green Deal, MetaFold Academy is poised to make a significant impact on the manufacturing industry.”
“We are dedicated to creating a sustainable future through education and are excited to see the transformative impact of our training programme.”
Brief about STILFOLD
Founded in 2020, STILFOLD, owned and developed by the Swedish design and tech firm, STILRIDE AB, is on a mission to transform industrial manufacturing and mobility in the future.
Functioning as a B2B division of STILRIDE AB, STILFOLD is focused on commercialising the technology through service offerings, licensing, and as a solution provider.
It aims to create products that blend functionality, durability, and sustainability, allowing designers and engineers to use fewer materials without sacrificing complexity.
STILFOLD’s goal is to make this technology accessible to designers and manufacturers who seek to minimise environmental impact while maximising their product potential.
By simplifying shapes, eliminating welds, and optimising construction, STILFOLD minimises resource consumption and waste, thus reducing the environmental impact of production.
The company emerged from a visionary research project supported by the Swedish Innovation Agency and is led by founders Tue Beijer and Jonas Nyvang.
